I was wondering if anyone had any ideas of how to build a hog tie or where I can buy one. I'm tired of rope all the time. Thanks!

i found rope to be the best  i tie mine in the form of a hobble  faster and easier an just as good if not better

i am heating and air man i was wondering if the zip ties we use for ductwork will work the are about 1/2" wide and 36 to 48" long

Zip ties will work, but will do irreparable damage if left on too long, and the "too long" window is much shorter with zipties.

i have hobble and mule tape  the hobbles are a pain and the muletape is faster

I use hand cuffs fast and easy.

muletape is what they use to pull utility lines through the plastic conduit its a flat narrow  strap

We buy hobbles from Extreme Outdoors, Used them on a 325 pound boar this morning and he couldnt even bugde them

i myself like hobbles. there fast and easy to use

Mule tape is flat rope. It can be bought or find a crew pulling line underground. You can use any rope. I leave mine long so it can be used for anything. Mule tape fits in my pocket better. Just tie a knot that pulls against itself.

Hobbles are the only way to go for me.  Get the brightest colors you can find, and two different sizes.  I left 2 sets of them in the woods, somewhere.  Before hobbles, I used the flat green nylon rope from Military Surplus, and the white "mule tape".  I still have two big roles of green and white (about a mile all together).  I think there are two different kinds of mule tape one with a wire strand in it and one without.  Also that stuff isn't UV resistant, so don't leave it outside too long.  It will get sun damaged and break real easy.

I only have two sets of hobbles, so I still use flat rope when I need to.  I'm guilty of leaving a couple hogs tied too long with rope and they went lame.
      
If you catch alot of hogs in a hurry, you can tie three half hitches around one front leg and tie it to a tree.  A hog can't pull himself free with one front foot tied.  Mark the location or leave a tracking collar and off you go to the next hog.  The hog will be standing there when you get back, and coyotes won't kill it.
 
I would never use zip ties.  Catch the hogs or kill them, don't torture them.  

I tried those big zip ties one time on a barr close to 300 pounds......................we had to catch him again after he broke them

I like Muletape. You can tie em fast & he's not going any where. I never tried hobbles they look like they leave the legs to loose and you have to tie it off to something. 

We have never had any problems with our hobbles coming loose as long as they are made good, they should hold, its all about picking the right size hobbles for the hog

I think I'm gonna try me a good hobble and have some mule tape just in case :) thanks!

Are you guys hobbling them below or above the hock?

Ive used mule tape for the last month and love it .just make loop on each end and use like store bought hobbles.I make up 4 pair of em and theyll fit in a shirt pocket for easy acess.I use the 3/4 to 1 in.wide tape and is hercules brand tape.

i hobble mine above hock on back  but if hog is over 150 can below on front and they'll stay tight    i also cross mine (back left to front right)  works really good
