Title: R.I.P. HAPPY Post by: de_moon on May 14, 2011, 08:51:10 am Happy was on my very first hunt with dogs about 6 years ago. Krystal & Thomas raised him, but many people caught hogs behind him in the woods. About a year ago Thomas called & asked if I would like to hunt Happy and I gladly accepted. Happy struck many hogs for us and he sure took care of a good set of pups I've been starting this Spring. He had a tendency to be rough, but he was never stupid about it and we never lost a hog that he was bayed on. I think he was about 12 years old. For a rough dog to last 12 years in the woods, you know he was a smart one. He had cataracts in his eyes and not a tooth in his head, but as soon a bulldog got to a hog, he was latched onto the other ear until the hog was dead or tied. I buried his old a$$ right next to my favorite deer stand on my favorite hog hunting pasture. I know many people know Happy. I would bet that he has caught more hogs than 90% of us. Thanks to Thomas and Krystal for the opportunity to get to know Happy so well and use him in the woods. RIP Old Man.

Title: Re: R.I.P. HAPPY Post by: Texas_Cur on May 14, 2011, 05:02:17 pm Very sorry to hear Derrick. I have to say, 12 years of hunting for a rough dog sounds like a long successful career.
RIP Happy Title: Re: R.I.P. HAPPY Post by: got2catchem on May 14, 2011, 05:17:18 pm Sorry to hear it Derrick... It's always tough when you lose a good dog, especially one that had been around as long as Happy had.
Title: Re: R.I.P. HAPPY Post by: uglydog on May 14, 2011, 06:17:47 pm Derick Thanks for posting this for Happy boy. Thank You for putting him to work in his old age, some dogs don't want to retire.
One of My most memorable hunts with Happy was a comical one, We were hunting Bay City with Mike, Matt, and several other ETHD members. Most all the dogs were out and hunting good but Happy, he was very short ranged that day ;), as we were easing along on the four wheelers, Happy ducked off in the thin brush line not very far from us and opend up. Thomas said "happy is bayed" Mike looked at me as we were all getting off the bikes, I had my arms stretched out wide expressing a very large saying "Amadillo" picking back at Thomas ;D but sure enough he had a Boar he struck up in those rose hedges! Happy loved to catch a hog! and was a very sweet dog when he was not hunting Dwayne, Happy & Scooter (https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/_mFSDOgRZVlo/Tc70a1qZ1sI/AAAAAAAAN1M/0UFpmDhjPm0/s640/IMG_0081.JPG) (https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/_mFSDOgRZVlo/Tc70fukTWEI/AAAAAAAAN1U/wtWpCqEuW1w/s512/P6090081.JPG) RIP Happy, Title: Re: R.I.P. HAPPY Post by: matt_aggie04 on May 14, 2011, 08:20:54 pm Happy was a good old dog. I remember that hunt well Krystal and though we didn't bring that hog out of the river I still remember that hog bobbing up one last time and those shanks hanging out of his face. Him and old Chunk lived long good lives and hunted nearly up the end, good job on giving those old men the time in the woods they derserved Derrick.
