Title: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: TimmsHogDogs on September 07, 2011, 09:59:54 am My 8 year old dog will not walk. We went hunting two days ago, go t back and she was fine, noticed yesterday morning that she wasnt on her chain, found her under the shed. Couldnt get her to walk had to carry her in the house and she hasnt moved from that spot since yesterday, she drank some water yesterday but hasnt since and ate a pork chop this morning but only when I would hand feed her and then wouldnt take another... What do you think could be wrong with her?

Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: dub on September 07, 2011, 11:04:40 am When they won't drink it is straight to the vet ASAP. Get an IV to keep the dog alive so you can figure out what it wrong. Could have been hit by a hog and have internal injuries. Could be sick. But without fluids the dog will die for sure. Good luck

Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: TimmsHogDogs on September 07, 2011, 03:39:20 pm Well she is up moving around now but I think I figured out what it is, she got loose (this dog is an escape artist) while she was in heat about a month ago, thouvght she might have gotten bred but wasnt a 100% sure,I think she is miss carrying because she has black fluid coming out.... Didnt want anymore pups outta her because of the age, but didnt mant her to have a miscarriage either
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: muleman on September 07, 2011, 04:28:54 pm Black fluid is not good....
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: firemedic on September 07, 2011, 08:40:07 pm This is Vet territory for sure....if you care about the dog,....heck, even if you don't...you owe it to her to get her help. Can't be any straighter than that.

X2 Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: TimmsHogDogs on September 08, 2011, 10:19:06 am Well she is having a miscarriage, she lost one pup last night and is still loosing the rest of them, vet said there isnt much they could do but I think im gonna call another vet because I wanna make sure she is okay, Im disapointed about her loosing the litter but we hadnt planned on having anymore litters from her so its ok, my big cat male was the daddy, the pup she had last night was the same coloring as my male. She is up moving around, eating and drinking again so I think she is going to be okay...
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: halfbreed on September 08, 2011, 10:45:17 am sorry for the lost litter when she's all done i'd put her on a round of antibiotics . wouldn't hurt to go ahead and start em now .
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: TimmsHogDogs on September 08, 2011, 11:08:01 am What dose would you give? I was thinking 2cc of Pen for a few days until the fluid drainage stops
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: halfbreed on September 08, 2011, 12:06:07 pm that should be fine . just enough to make sure she don't get some kind of infection .
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: tmatt on September 08, 2011, 12:08:57 pm Your definitely going to need something stronger than penicillin! Have you considered some oxytocin to help flush her out or maybe taking her to the vet for a dnc? The weakest antibiotics that I would use is Clavamox, which is potentiated Amoxicillin. Baytril or Cipro would be your best bet for something like this. Baytril and Cipro are essentially the same thing, the main difference is that Baytril can be given as a bolus once a day but Cipro can't, it has to given in two doses. JMO
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: tmatt on September 08, 2011, 12:10:51 pm Not trying to step on any toes but if she has a black discharge then there is probably already an infection and pen just ain't gonna get it done.
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: halfbreed on September 08, 2011, 12:25:28 pm thats fine tmatt pen amox clav all are good the black discharge is from the fluid sack just like after having pups they will dischard a blakish fluid for several days a good gyp and you wont notice much because they constantly clean it up . i've had one miscarage in my life and penn did all right just like are cows with still borns or pullin calves . but do somethin in the line of anti's for preventitive measures
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: uglydog on September 08, 2011, 01:03:33 pm A heavy dose of antibiotics in her system because she is already down, and then follow up an get her to anoher vet that will get her a shot and flush her out and look at her. alot could be going on besides miscarriage, what caused miscarriage?
Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: curdawgs on September 09, 2011, 04:16:23 pm Well she is having a miscarriage, she lost one pup last night and is still loosing the rest of them, vet said there isnt much they could do but I think im gonna call another vet because I wanna make sure she is okay, Im disapointed about her loosing the litter but we hadnt planned on having anymore litters from her so its ok, my big cat male was the daddy, the pup she had last night was the same coloring as my male. Title: Re: My Molly Dog---- Help Post by: TimmsHogDogs on September 10, 2011, 08:56:02 pm Dont know what caused the miscarriage, my only guess is that we had taken her hunting two days before and she was acting extremely tired throught the whole trip but thought maybe its just because she is a bit over weight. We did not breed her, she got off her chain and bred to our cat male is what im asuming by looking at the puppys she lost. She is running around playing today and let her off the chain, she went straight to our baypen and started baying hogs so luckily I think she will be fine
She is getting antibiotics for a few days just to make sure but the fluid drainage has stopped. She still isnt eating very well though |
