Title: Last Public Land hunt of the Season with Spazhogdog and Terry Post by: Cutter Bay Kennels on March 05, 2012, 02:32:14 pm The Florida management area hunts are shutting down for the season, so we figured we would give it a go. We went for a camping/hunting weekend. I would meet Lisa, Terry, and their 3 year old grandson Joey for the action. This is the camp site we chose.
(http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t208/12-GAUGE_photo/8ee39f22.jpg) To make it short, we hunted pretty hard on Saturday to no avail. The hogs had all moved since we had last hunted the place about 2 weeks earlier. We got on some, but never could seal the deal. We called it a day early to take Joey fishing (that is all he talked about). We knew it was going to rain during the night, so we turned in early. Sleeping in a tent, knowing it is going to leak is not cool. I'll leave it at that. LOL. It started raining about 5:15 AM. By 6:30 it had stopped. We got up and ready, and headed out to the woods. We walked some serious miles, but never could put the dogs in a good spot. After several drops, we were feeling defeated. I'll be honest, it was a bad feeling. Joey had never been hunting, so we were really wanting him to get his first hog. I had also just got a new dog to replace Pistol, and I was wanting to see if he had the desire I felt he should have. My hounds ended up sounding off in the box as I was driving, so I decided to let them out. I have to be honest, I thought they might just need to go the bathroom. When they jumped out, Terry suggested I just let them go into the timber. Within about 40 yards, they struck in. Terry dumped his yella female to them, but she came back. The hounds ran about 200 yards in, jumped, and started a decent little race. Terry and I headed back to the trucks to chill out. I decided to drive up the road a little. Once I turned off the truck, Lisa hollered on the CB that something was on the road behind me. When I turned, I saw a pair of otters playing. I even watched them spray their scent on the ground. It was kinda cool, I have to admit. Ramsey and Beulah made about a 500 yard big loop, and fell bayed 123 yards off the road very close to where they started it. I quickly vested the new catchdog prospect “Gator”. Terry re-cut his yella cur female. We stated towards the swamps edge. The cur ran in, and she began to bay. Terry said she is pretty catchy, so we got excited. I unsnapped Gator and after he relieved himself he too shot in. When he got there, there was some commotion, and the bay broke. The boar ran up into the palmettos, and I watched the cur shut him down. When he stopped to fight, she mugged his ear. A moment later Gator hit the jaw. The hounds showed up and begin to get some as well. Ramsey grabbed his manhood, and Beulah did her normal bite and bark deal. Gator regripped a total of 2 times. He ended up on the hog’s nose. The hog wasn’t going anywhere. After getting the nerve to go in with a good boar and dogs I had never seen catch, I was able to get ahold of his tail. The knive eventually got right, and he went down. After the boar was dead, Gator released and backed off. The other dogs were all around, and the prospect was content to just sit back. I was impressed. He had never been with a hog before, but certainly acted the part. The regripping did not bother me, as he was new. I’m certain that will work itself out. I tied Gator to a tree, and Joey came in to bask in the glory. He was pumped. We took him for some pics, and headed back to the camp to pack up. I want to publically thank Terry and Lisa for all of their hard work and goofing around. I had a blast. Here are a few pics. Title: Re: Last Public Land hunt of the Season with Spazhogdog and Terry Post by: JDJP on March 06, 2012, 04:51:43 pm Walk hunting behind hounds makes for some good cardiovascular. Cool that you saw the hog break and get shut down. Is that a Toyota rig in the backround? Have any more pics or info on that? Good hog, and a rare black one too :)

Good hog, and a rare black one too :) I wasn't walk hunting behind hounds. ;) Terry hunts curs. ;D We take turns with our packs. The rig is Terry's. It is a steel flat bed with 4 steel boxes welded directly on it. It is all one piece. It is pretty sharp. Lisa should have plenty of pics, but this is the ones I have handy. It is for his Toyota. I believe he is actually trying to sell it. ;D (http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t208/12-GAUGE_photo/dbe52be9.jpg) (http://i161.photobucket.com/albums/t208/12-GAUGE_photo/55f8063f.jpg) Title: Re: Last Public Land hunt of the Season with Spazhogdog and Terry Post by: JDJP on March 06, 2012, 05:33:52 pm Nice, thanks

Get with Spaz, and I'm sure she can tell you. He may just want to sell the bed/box deal. I'm note certain.
