Title: trying to help Post by: Acwells0808 on March 23, 2012, 12:36:40 am Well we have a delima. Don't. Know if anyone can help but here goes. We hunt a lot and have given our city our number if anyone needs help we had a lady call us inside city limits they have been tore up by hogs they have a nice neighborhood. And the hogs tore it up they said no one will help so we put out a trap no luck tryed everything no luck so its a real big chunk of land so we said hell we got dogs that no not to cross roads or get into trouble so we took them out the ( mind u this is in the middle of our town behind a school) and bam we got a 150# boar and the land is so bad its like they have lived there for years so then a week goes by they call us there in our yard just ran the grandkids in the house we go take the dogs again bam they got on one let the catch dog go it ran 3 dogs went one way then we headed to them and ill be damn if 15 20 didn't come right out in front of us and there went the other two dogs this was at 7pm at 1 am we finally got the dogs and the 2 pigs and they called just a sec ago there back 15 they counted in the front yard I don't know what to do these are older people. They are so scared they are hanging up aluminium plates thinking it will scar them off :'(it is so sad. Can't do it alone and its in city limits I don't think u are even supposed. To be hunting in so my question. Is can you get a special license. To use dogs? What else is there to do and please don't say trap they don't go in it I have been trapping for years and these hogs are trap smart and are not leaving

Title: Re: trying to help Post by: Acwells0808 on March 23, 2012, 12:49:16 am Tyler and they said no dogs in city limits and then they say you can with permission. And then they say just trap them
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: texasguy23 on March 23, 2012, 12:57:19 am well that sucks tell the couple to complain and raise Cain and that should get the city to give permission
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: Acwells0808 on March 23, 2012, 01:14:44 am They did even sent a letter to the court house and tried to put it on the news I mean we run the dogs over there but we only run 2 strike dogs and that aient cutting it these pigs are sticking together so my dogs are trying to get them under control and its not happening in a pack of 20+

Title: Re: trying to help Post by: Hogsnatchers on March 23, 2012, 07:55:36 am Get in contact with the local county sheriff. In any county the sheriff is the highest authority, higher than any other official. Explain the situation to him/her and go from there. Not sure if it will work but its worth a try
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: halfbreed on March 23, 2012, 11:52:47 am well much as i hate to say it . in the city like that trap smart hogs an all . SNARES will git em . just make sure and put choke stops on them or make leg hold sets so you don't choke down someones house dog . thats the way they do it here in the city it's handled buy the dog catcher .
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: co on March 23, 2012, 12:04:35 pm They make these light to put on your house and it keeps them away. Had similar problem at my grandmothers house, she put up them lights and BAM hasn't been a pig on her place in about 5 yrs now. I know it sounds strange. I couldn;t believe it myself til she put em up. I cant remember the name of the lights though.
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: Acwells0808 on March 23, 2012, 12:41:24 pm Can you use snares in Texas I thought they where illegal. I got some ill look in to see if I can find the lights and u can't use a gun in city limits
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: dub on March 23, 2012, 12:50:45 pm In Texas you need the land owner's permission. You can't shoot but I don't see the problem with using dogs to help catch the pigs. If they are right in the yard sit with catch dogs and forget the bay dogs.
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: Purebreedcolt on March 23, 2012, 12:56:11 pm Use cds only. See hogs turn fast cd loose caught hog. Only way to go on small properties. Your better off with something that don't look like a pit though. Something else that works build you a trap out of panels and weave it into the brush and use a larger gate. Make them think they aint entering a trap.
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: charles on March 23, 2012, 01:43:00 pm before i left for afghanistan, i had georgetown animal control call me, wanting to me to remove hogs from with in the city limits of georgetown, tx. bc they didnt have a contingency plan for hog removal. the control officer said to use dogs bc they put out traps, and wow, no hogs. if you can get the elder couple and as many nieghbors to petition the city to allow yaw to come in and get them. problem should be solved. just make sure you get it in writing from the city. if nothing else, blackmale the city by having the local news come out, meet with the elder couple, nieghbors and your crew and show the news media what the hogs are doing. it may put pressure on the city councel to get off their dead butts and put yaw to work. i hate to say it but the news media can be a usefull tool with this situation.
Title: Re: trying to help Post by: halfbreed on March 24, 2012, 12:00:35 am ha ha just be careful of the news media . thats what happened in arlington tx i turned em down when they called me and the boy took it had to deal with all the treehuggin idiots that heard about it on the news . damn city folks just never learn .
