Im buying a truck tomorrow tell me bout it...09 2500 diesel engine how does it run, good strong engine? Or a lot problems down the road?

Dylan idk if you have seen my dodge but I got an 07 with the same motor as that 09 I haven't had any trouble out of mine and you can tweak that thing just right to make it fly

a 5.9 Cummins is the best there is. If I'm not mistaken all the '09s are a 6.7 and your not gonna enjoy the fuel mileage if its stock there's a lot of emissions b.s. on em. I believe Justincorbell has a pretty nice 6.7 that he's done quite a bit to maybe he'll chime in

6.7 is a good motor if you dont mind poor fuel mileage. If you take the filters off the exhaust and put a programmer you will love it. I have owned 8 diesels since 2005 all dodges the 5.9 was great i have been disappointed by my 6.7's all but my 08 that i removed all the emission crap.

Thanks hunter and I got a smarty programmer from a buddy for 300 this lady was getting 15-16 around town and 20-22 on the highway so it's not bad I just got out of an 08 F350 and it was getting 10 to the gallon with the 6.4 powerstroke worst engine for fuel economy and then again it was a FORD

Yep there good just get u a egr delete kip and chip off the dpf filter cold air intake and programmer and u are ready to fly and get good mileage

WELL I HAVE THE O8 6.7 AND I GET GOOD FUEL MILEAGE. BUT HAD TO PUT SOME $$$ INTO IT TO GET IT. I GET 25 ON THE HWY AND ABOUT 20 IN TOWN.

 dylan, mine is a 2012 with the 6.7 and if fuel milage is what ur lookn for, find ya a 5.9 as the other guy said he get good mpg afater he pumped a bunch of $ into it and its gonna take a bit to recoupe the $ he spent to get the mpg b4 he starts making a savings

Im runnin a 2008 3500 mega cab and my lieometer says i get 20-21 mpg's but hand calc i get 17-18. Ive got the h&s xrt pro and the dpf and egr deletes, it runs pretty good but here lately ive been havin a few little problems with it, i think i may have a bad injector or something, not sure yet but its dumping way to much fuel here lately, to much black smoke and not enough go go, goin to the shop monday. Overall I love the truck though, this will be its first time in the shop since i'ved owned it and ive put over 40k on it.

The 2006 dodge 2500 cummins will cost less and get way better gas milage and also the motor is a better motor

I have the 06 5.9 I love it. Its got some upgrades to the engine. It's got a 6 in lift 37x13.50x20 mud graps. The only down fall was the ac went out twice and I've been through 3 transmissions. I get pretty good gas mileage.

Just kidding. Yea I like the 5.9 just laid out a payment plan and they took it on the 09 and its coming with a ranch hand bumper so Im suppose to finalize on it tomorrow but oh yea the lift kit and all is soon to come

5.9 with a bully dog on is BAD A$$ my dad had one and we called it the grey ghost  ;D ;D ;D we would always dump a cloud of black smoke on all the guy in the corvettes when they had the top down on them that thought the were bad a$$

 We have the 2006 5.9 and LOVE it! We are on our second dodge and loved both of them. The only issue that I have with dodge is...... THEY NEED TO MAKE A BIGGER HEAVIER BUILT BALL JOINT!!!!!!

 The front ends don't last, the dodge ball joint is the smallest one compared to ford and chevy.  :(

The main issue on the dodge front end is that it is a straight axle not independent you get good and bad with the straight axle. Less moving parts tougher. Bad rougher riding and front end wears out faster

Here's my beast :) Got new headlights for her here if I can ever manage to get 'em put on, and she has a lift in her future.

Just joined the club last week. Glad to be back in a manual shift. Going to Zapata this weekend so we will see what kind of mileage it gets.

 Mrs dianna, go with the moog upper and lower ball joints. they are true life time warrenty and greasable. i had an 06 4x4 with the 5.9 and i went through 3 sets of tire rod ends, drag lin, pitman arms and 1 factory set of ball joints. the tire rod ends and drag links were moog and i bought the news, took them bck and got a refund on them, no questions ask at o'rilleys. when i lifted it, the drop down bracket for my sway bar was to thick for the carppy bolt that was sent with the kit and the factory bolt. i got a grade8 1/2" bolt, hammered it on with my impact and that took the death wabble out, stiffened my steering and made it a better ride. due to the slop in the sway bar bracket and the death wabble, i went through all the steering components, to include 8 factory steering stabilizers, and even put a dual steer stab kit on it.

if the rear end hadnt been goin to crap, i woulda kept it. i only had 3000 left to pay on it, now i got a 2012 1tn with the 6.7 and 6spd auto, but it gets the same crappy mileage that my lifted 5.9 did (14-16mpg).

any1 know any mods or programmers that are dealer authorized? the dealership said they would do a 6" lift, certain programmers, exhaust systems and cold kits and still keep my 100,000 pwrtrain and 75,000 bumper-bumper warrenty, as long as the dealer installed the items.

Nice truck Eric, some tires and wheels are going to make that ride look a lot better  ;D.  I feel ya on the seat belt tone too, it is very annoying!  I have owned a lot of different Dodge trucks over the years and my most recent is my favorite hands down.  I bought a late 2011 3500 4x4 last november with the HO motor that come in the 2012.  This motor has gobs of power and if I am just driving around I get 16mpg and towing I get 13.  To me it just runs a lot better than my 08 6.7 did and it gets better mileage.

It got 16.5mpg going to Zapata. Thats drivng 80mph most of the time.

.........because im an idiot!!!! That truck never gave me a single problem, i bought it with 16miles and sold it with 77,000 and had zero issues even with it sittin on 42's. It was a great truck but work was forcin me to drive out of state a good bit and a 1/2 ton on 42" military tires aint exactly comfortable on 12-16hr road trips lol. I still miss it, it was a blast to drive.

 Ya the one with the 3 wheller in the back( I think its a three wheller). But that and fuel milage to being that high up to but I see why now you could of always gave it to a friend to "babysit" it and get it back later :D

I wish I would have!!!! Last I saw any trace of it, it was on autotrader being sold as a "one of a kind custom monster truck" lol, it was just a 6" 3" combo susp/body lift on the biggest tires I could tuck lol. And yes that was a 3 wheeler, honda big red to be exact, also one fun little buggy!
