Title: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 09:55:04 am Im going to leave out all the details because the story would be toooo loooong. But me, James, and Justin Corbell made a hunt and we had our arses handed to us last night by a big boar hog.
Here is the picture........ dogs show bayed up. We get to the bay and hear the dogs fighting the hog. We turned two catch dogs loose. A veteran, solid catch dog and a dog that is new to the game but catches hard and is very strong. Both catch dogs catch, one on each ear and bay dogs helping the catch dogs. BIG HOG. James gets to it first and goes to grab a leg. He grabs the first leg which he quickly realizes that its too thick to get his hand around. At that moment, the hog jerks his leg free and slings both catch dogs off and leaves all of our other dogs too cut to follow. Now Im talking about dogs that have caught hundreds of hogs. Catchdogs that have never been slung off before. This is one bad sum beech! Now its personal. It may be two weeks before our pack is ready to roll again but we will be gunning for this hog! Has anyone ever had TWO catch dogs slung off? I keep asking myself where did it all go wrong? What could we have done different? On a good note, the pup that we brought and the pups that Justin brought did well. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: T-Bob Parker on December 30, 2012, 10:00:57 am Sorry to hear that Dinah! When y'all go for it again, I've got two more bulldogs I'll let y'all throw at him. Just get him ate up with bulldogs.
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Purebreedcolt on December 30, 2012, 10:01:21 am Yep my ridgeback and my pit. Didn't think there were many hogs that could do it to the ridgeback but about a month ago we. Caught one that every time I got close would run with them caught. He threw or scraped them off and headed to the hills. Have a game cam pic of the hog I think it was and yeah he is big would be mounted if and when I catch him.

Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 10:12:16 am Yep my ridgeback and my pit. Well Im sorry to hear that it happened to you too. But honestly it makes me feel a little better knowing that we arent the only ones. Yes it takes a heck of a big bad hog to pull something like that off. We have caught some sure enough big nasty boars, so when something like this happens it makes you wonder what else is out there! :o Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: goose on December 30, 2012, 10:33:43 am dang sure a good one sounds like ms dinah....thats why my great grandpaw always told me its called fishing not catching guess the same applies to hoghunting and not hog catching....hope the dogs heal up good for yall
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Shotgun wg on December 30, 2012, 10:43:29 am Had have? A big boar on the farm that is similar. Cut down and killed 9 dogs in 2 days. The vet said he had never seen dogs broke up so bad. As far as I know he has yet to be killed unless by rifle. Saw it in rice field while cutting and one of the guys tried to shoot it. Didn't find any blood so it may or may not still be roaming. If he is I sure want his head on a plate.
Sorry to hear about y'all's dogs. Hope in a couple weeks u can use him for a hood ornament. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: TexasCornBread on December 30, 2012, 11:34:54 am I've got a real gritty strike dog that will catch Also I'm willing to throw him in the pack if y'all would like ??

TexasCornBread - If you can't Dodge it RAM it ! Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 11:44:52 am Goose, that is true. We have had lots of hog get away. Just never with two catchdogs caught, a pack of bay dogs helping and a mans hand on the hog. But it sure got the old adrenaline pumping. Shotgun, wow. I would like to see that hogs head! Sorry to hear about that kind of wreck. I hope you get him one day. Im pretty sure that if we get this one, his head is going up on the wall. We have been seening a huge set of tracks for a couple of years now. Never encountered the hog that left them though. I have a good idea that it was the same hog last night. I left a lot of details out of my story to keep it short but one detail is that we saw this hog before we struck him. I think this old hog is smart. When we turned the dogs loose, they went into a patch of woods across from the milo field. They went into the wind. Which makes sense. About 500 yards down from us, we caught a glimpse of the hog as he left the patch of woods and went into the milo field. Which put him up wind from the dogs. We drove down to where he crossed and tried to put a few more dogs on his track but because of the direction of the wind, they wanted to backtrack. Finally old Red, a dog that has probably 1000 hogs under his belt, figured it out and went after the boar. But if we wouldn't have seen him. HE would have gave the dogs the slip. I have to hand it to the hog, he is smart and is probably why he is so big, and still running free. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 11:49:05 am I've got a real gritty strike dog that will catch Also I'm willing to throw him in the pack if y'all would like ?? TexasCornBread - If you can't Dodge it RAM it ! Thank you for the offer. Im not sure if it will help. Our strike dogs will help the catch dogs too, so this hog had dogs hanging off of him everywhere. LOL, He is just one heck of a hog. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: M Bennet on December 30, 2012, 11:52:17 am some times when thangs happen like this , it always puts me back incheck and reminds me what can happen to the best. young or old. the power of these animals is so miss judged. just the flick of the head can through a dog 12 feet. and when you see that you think dam. sorry for yur luck and hope you r dogs heal up. now you just have to out think him. good luck on him next time.
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on December 30, 2012, 12:24:38 pm yesterday was a shocker for me, I know that. I was actually closer to the bay than Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah but due to where I was standing I couldn't tell what was going on where. I could hear crashing all around me it seemed like. Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah were leading in the cd's nd I tried to slip in to see what we were dealing with but I could never line out where exactly the "bay" was because once I got within 20yds it got really quiet with exception to the 2 bulldogs running in. That hog never made a single sound and I think that most of the dogs were caught before the cd's even got there. I have seen their dog, red, get whooped on pretty good a few different times by bigger hogs and never even check up but when I saw him last night I honestly thought he was gonner. That hog beat that poor dog up one side and down the other. I was right behind James when he legged the hog and honestly it all happened so fast that I didn't get a great look at him even tho I was maybe 4' from him. when that hog jerked from james he about fell over and when I say that hog left out, I mean he LEFT OUT. the dogs that could still stop him tried to but it was no use. Every single dog that I looked at seemed to be cut somewhere with exception to the 2 cd's wearing full protection. I know I said it last night to Mr. James and Mrs. Dinah and I'll say it again here, I don't know what exactly the deffinition of "getting wrecked" means but I will that was the worst I have ever seen a pack of dogs get cut down on a hog.
Out of all the bad that happened last night I can say that there was still an upside to the hunt. That boar hog may very well be a barr or a partial barr this mornin because their 7mth old "tracker" pup had a mouthful of nuts when we got to the bay >:D >:D. I know that hog is hurtin, i followed blood probly 20+yds from where he left until I turned around to help out with the dogs. I brought 3 dogs with me. My old dog "smoke" my younger gyp "bonnie" and my 8mth old pup "worm" it was his first time in the woods ever. I have very high expectations for this pup, he is out of my best dog an 8yr old named "smoke" off of Mr. Witherspoons yard and an old gyp named sue sue that Mr. Witherspoon owns. It's an understatement to say that he did not disappoint, he ranged out with the other dogs over 700yds multiple times and was at the bay when I got there. I could have asked for him to do any better for his first time in the woods. I am looking forward to see him progress this next year. Bonnie did really well for not being hunted in almost 5mths.....(she had a litter then I went on a turnaround) she was at the bay also and was covered head to toe in blood but much to my surprise she didn't have a nick on her. Smoke is still ignorin me this mornin because I never even turned him out last night lol. Anyway I'm done ramblin. In short I had a great time and it was good gettin to meet up and hunt with the Psenciks again, they are good as gold and their dogs aren't far behind em. The pups did great and the dogs did their damndest to make it happen but such is life sometime. happy hunting to everyone and hapy new year! Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on December 30, 2012, 12:25:48 pm Sorry to hear that Dinah! When y'all go for it again, I've got two more bulldogs I'll let y'all throw at him. Just get him ate up with bulldogs. T-bob im thinkin that may be the best approach at this one. he was a stud. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: jimco on December 30, 2012, 01:38:12 pm Hate to hear about the dogs getting wrecked up but Dinah and Justin that made for some good reading. Can't wait to hear about how
y'all finally get him. I have no doubt y'all will. I detect a real sense of determination coming from Dinah's post. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Lacy man on December 30, 2012, 01:55:44 pm Well hate to hear y'all dogs got cut up but glad to hear all the pups performed good!

I have a good feeling that that ol hog is gonna get caught sooner or later Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: t.wilbanks on December 30, 2012, 05:10:35 pm Put some REAL Catchdogs on him and leave the BLUES at home!! >:D
Just kidding, good luck on getting him... ;) Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Noah on December 30, 2012, 05:11:39 pm Now THAT is the kinda hog that keeps us coming back!!! ;D Hope you get that sucker!!!
Only had it happen once just like that, beat two veteran CD's to a pulp, slung the cur dogs off and hauled ass... That moment was burned into my brain and I have never forgotten it. We got lucky and caught that hog, as I sent Shiner's momma to him and she caught him long enough for two of us to get aholt of him. THAT is what my Bucho dog is for, just that type of hog. A big/tall hog can carry even the best smaller CD's off into the sunset if they're front feet can't touch the damn ground. Bucho's big ass is overkill on 99% of all hogs he gets sent to, but for hogs like this... priceless :) As well, the hog that did that to us was EXTREMELY smart... those seem to be the ones that do chit like that as they almost seem to understand what happens if they do not beat the dogs. Don't realize how bad it feels to get beat until it happens, no worse feeling!! GET'M!!!! Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on December 30, 2012, 05:33:59 pm Put some REAL Catchdogs on him and leave the BLUES at home!! >:D Just kidding, good luck on getting him... ;) There wasnt a blue dog in the bunch mr. Smarty pants! Smarty pants! :D darn, thought I came up with a good one!! ;D Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 05:57:41 pm Noah, I agree 100 % about using a big leggy catch dog. We sure do miss VooDoo for this kind of hog. But we did use our newest catch dog last night and he isn't much smaller than VooDoo was. Turbo would have been a good one to use on this hog also. BUt we didn't use him last night.
These are the two catch dogs that we used last night. THis is Bullet. He is a son of Ammo, for those of you who remember him. (http://i490.photobucket.com/albums/rr266/djhogdogging/001800x600.jpg) THis is our new cd Razor. He is new to the game but he catches hard. We think highly of you also. Nice try Trenton! :D Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Mike on December 30, 2012, 06:10:36 pm Sounds like a donkey!
Size don't matter on some hogs... we had one run off one morning with three 100 lb catch dogs latched onto to him. Y'all will get him one day. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Shotgun wg on December 30, 2012, 06:33:49 pm Razor is one pretty dog.

and a pack of dogs. Anyway jusst gotta watch those kind of hogs they can hurt us just the same..good luck with it.. I would bay n shoot personally. And i will hopefully be there when it happens! Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Noah on December 30, 2012, 10:37:55 pm Thats what I'm talkin' about right there...
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Peachcreek on December 30, 2012, 10:45:29 pm sounds like that hog is a bad dude.. I hope yall get a chance to get him again.
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 10:55:34 pm Justin, you crack me up. But you sure right. ;D Yall know what? I remember a hog that cut our pack down back in the summer. We never even got a chance to see the hog. and we never even turned any cds loose. I had made a post about it. Its the time when I thought that we lost Red and James put his shirt down and someone took his shirt. Well any way, I bet this is the same dang hog. The reason I think this is because he did the same kind of damage and its about the same area. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: T-Bob Parker on December 30, 2012, 11:04:33 pm I wasn't implying the dogs I was gonna throw in the catch were great dogs or would "show anybody a thing or two" ( that's what I was told by my beautiful wife that it sounded like)
All I meant was literally, I own a couple dogs that I would sacrifice to the hog hunt gods if it help the Pseniks. I is a cull as a single catch dog, but he'll catch for sure. And the other is the brand new dog I got to replace him with, she catches real hard and weighs around 90-100 pounds, so I think that's two more dogs who could help slow this donkey down. Y'all don't have a problem getting him bayed, only keeping him caught, but heck that happens. Thats the only Reason I figured to throw as many catch dogs to him as he has skin to catch. Lol Hope y'all didn't take it the way my wife read it. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Noah on December 30, 2012, 11:18:05 pm Miss D got more balls than half the bay and shooters on this here board ;) :o ;D
... one more "bad deal story" and Ima' have to bring ol' Bucho out there and up-end this ol' boy... ;D ... question is... when ya finally get him caught... this type of hog is hard to kill in my experience... from a perspective of respect, as far as hogs go... when you beat an old warrior like this, it makes you think. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on December 30, 2012, 11:33:19 pm Lol dont get me wrong noah, i like catchin em more than shootin em but I just enjoy the hunting period, im more along the lines of " its not the means to the end, its just the end." ........if that makes any sense. When i used to hunt my old lease we would catch and cut almost every boar and would give away any sows we didnt eat. I will do it however the other people im with want to tho.
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on December 30, 2012, 11:52:46 pm I wasn't implying the dogs I was gonna throw in the catch were great dogs or would "show anybody a thing or two" ( that's what I was told by my beautiful wife that it sounded like) All I meant was literally, I own a couple dogs that I would sacrifice to the hog hunt gods if it help the Pseniks. Or as soon as everything gets healed up. If we cant catch him, we will sure give him hell. but here is something to thing about...if James couldn't get a grip around the hogs ankles then it might be a good idea to just stick him because if he comes loose why trying to throw him...it could get bad in a hurry...sounds like a hog that knows how to wreck a pack of dogs... Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: BA-IV on December 31, 2012, 08:25:09 am I hate to hear about the dogs.
BUT this is exactly the kinda hog that makes me hunt as hard as I do sometimes. Another thing you can try is a pair of handcuffs. They work good on big hogs, and if it gets to where you can't throw him, cuff the back leg you got a hold of and cuff it to a sapling or his other back leg, and it'll give you enough time to regroup, and go back at him for round two. I'd like to see this dude tied down for sure! Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: Mike on December 31, 2012, 08:31:20 am I'd bet money it's one of those "tame" barr hogs I read about.:o Lord knows that country over there is full of them.

I have come accross a couple. You can't hold onto it as a first leg. Remember what leg was grabbed and go for another one. I have a place I have to hit after deer season and they said they have a monster. I plan to bring extra hands so he can be flipped and tied. It is like a complete win. I will just stick a hog to save dogs but that is like a cheap victory. I am a flip and tie drag em out alive person myself so I understand.Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on January 02, 2013, 11:39:35 am I'd bet money it's one of those "tame" barr hogs I read about.:o Lord knows that country over there is full of them. If it weren't for the fact that I saw with my own eyes the Psenciks 7mth old yella pup "tracker" with a mouth fulla nutt at the bay I would agree with you, he was just a flat out big hog. He may very well be a barr now after what that pup was doing to his rear end lol. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: jimco on January 02, 2013, 01:07:59 pm So, how is all the banged up dogs doing? Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on January 02, 2013, 01:13:47 pm So, how is all the banged up dogs doing? When are y'all gonna get after him again? I bet y'all been strategizing . I textd Mr. James this morning asking him the same question.....no answer yet.......hope thats not a bad thing! I know a couple of theirs were whooped pretty bad I imagine it'll be at least another week or two before they are healed up good enough to go but I may be wrong. Their dog "red" had me a bit worried, I think he took the worst of it.....seems like he gets the worst of it just about every time. I will tell you one thing, that ol dog has ZERO quit in him and it a hog finding/catchin fool, if I had a yard full of em like him I would be one happy fella. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on January 02, 2013, 01:37:15 pm Red is such a trooper. He is up and around. Moving a little slow but other wise doing as well as can be expected. I have to laugh a little because our Camo dog, while he is a good hog dog and never hesitates doing his job, he is a bit of a baby when he gets a booboo. One of his injuries is a small nick on his back leg and if he sees you looking at him, he will lift that leg high in the air like its real bad. hahahah, he has always been this way. He is a bit of a drama momma. Buckshot is doing well too. He is up and eager to get supper every day. Sweet Pea never even got stove up. She is as tough as they come. Thank you for yalls concerns. Our pack's health is always a top priority and they are getting top care and should be back in full action in about another week and a half. Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: djhogdogger on January 02, 2013, 01:41:21 pm So, how is all the banged up dogs doing? When are y'all gonna get after him again? I bet y'all been strategizing . Oh yeah, I have been thinking about catching this big boy even in my sleep. :D Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: justincorbell on January 02, 2013, 02:38:26 pm good to hear Mrs. Dinah. I figured sweet pea and camo would be no worse for wear but I know ol red and buckshot got it pretty good. Glad they are all recovering good and BTW the line about buckshot up and waiting on food made me laugh lol, I know he ain't one to miss a meal!
Title: Re: One bad dude Post by: quickfire on January 02, 2013, 02:53:36 pm Same thing happened to me 2 weeks ago on my biggest hog. I am still in awww I couldn't believe it. We tried to leg it and it started dragging dogs and the next thing I know he was lose. A few trail dogs followed but it was late and we were 2 properties over so we called them off and went home but I was super bummed. I guess occassionally some slip away. I have 2 other catch dogs I'd like to try on this ole boy if we ever run into him again.
