Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: TexasHogDogs on February 17, 2013, 01:37:54 pm I think you are probably right halfbreed they come in all makes and models . Was just wondering what everyone else thought .
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: T-Bob Parker on February 17, 2013, 01:53:51 pm I too believe they come in different shades, here's a couple that I know can huff and puff and blow the house down.

The red one (RIP Salt) was Dang quick herself, but the black catahoula in the bottom photo can FLY! (Bo. Belongs to Josh Hefernan) Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on February 17, 2013, 02:29:25 pm Of all the cur type breeds as a general question,i would think lacy's. I dont hunt them and never owned one but they look to be smaller and tighter footed than most other curs overall and the ones i have seen were fast,im sure everyone has at least one dog in their pack that is faster than their other dogs but i would think the lacy group would produce faster dogs consistently. You have some lacys scattered on your yard dont ya jim??
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: TexasHogDogs on February 17, 2013, 02:46:13 pm Yes sir . I was gonna say the fastest dog I have on my yard is the Bell gyp . This gyp can really turn it on if she has to . We watched her run down a little boar hog about 125 lbs are so . She winded in a corn patch went in and found him the other dogs were off some were else she ran him out of the corn patch and into a open field that had to be 1000 yds are so to the top of the hill were the tree line was. The hog had I know a good 80 yard head start are more and she bolted once out of the corn and caught him right at the base of the big hill 150 yds are so from the tree line. I know a lot of folks dont like Lacys but if you got a really good one they are a speical kinda dog. I got her bred to the Partin Fla cur dog now to put some real speed into the pups . I have seen a few Lacys that can almost become air born when they take off.
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: TexasHogDogs on February 17, 2013, 03:07:50 pm T Bob that black dog looks like it can fly great looking dog.

Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: TexasHogDogs on February 17, 2013, 03:28:56 pm Just straight out track speed. Yall post some pics of your fastest dogs.
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: Dogs, hogs, coons on February 17, 2013, 03:43:26 pm Im joining the band wagon.. However my gyp strike Kemmer cur is the fastest dog I have. She's a smaller frame dog and has only been cut in the woods once she learned quick and is an agile little thing. I've also seen her litter mate and he is one of the fastest help dogs I've ever seen. He'll be the first dog to go to the bay. They'll both put teeth on a pig and know when to back up. Ill post pictures of her later as soon as I find out how to post pictures with an iPhone.
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: Purebreedcolt on February 17, 2013, 06:01:03 pm If ridgebacks are on the list of curs then will say my ridge female my male ridge is perty fast also. One of the fastest dogs I have ever been around was a lacy ridgeback and was one hell of a hog dog was run loose and would go caych jack rabbit s to eat didnt eat much dog food she caught a lot of what she ate. Been temped to try amd recreate her with my lacy which is probally the second fastest dog behind my female ridgeback and my male ridge but dang I hate pups.
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: Reuben on February 17, 2013, 06:14:13 pm one of the fastest track dogs I saw was a leopard colored hound looking gyp...She was built like I like them...tight flank and hard bodied and leggy slick coated dog...she ran the track at about wide open speed...the owner said that the man who gave him the dog said she was a leopard cur...now the leopard cur is known as the leopard hound...
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: ROCKIN ROO HOG DOGS on February 17, 2013, 06:27:25 pm I agree purebreedcolt, ridgebacks are also extremely fast,a very underestimated breed when thinking about speed,my dad breeds them and ive seen them "almost" catch a hare wide open across a hay field........"almost" ..
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: Irondog87 on February 17, 2013, 10:57:03 pm I think the drive of a certain dog defines how fast it is. My brother has a ybmc very leggy and lean that runs beside the rhino going 30 mph ( no lie!!) but I've watched him get burned by a 50# shoat at nite while I held the light on the hog :-[ makes no dang sence! My redtick chased a 60# sow out of the woods the other night and ran her down in the middle of an open pasture like it was nothing but he runs a track at a medium pace. Fastest curs I've seen are well built like a rock and not to bulky. These dogs could scat!!! ;D
Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: KOcatchdogs on February 18, 2013, 08:10:28 am Ole doc... He runs a track pretty dang quick

Post by: hillbilly on February 18, 2013, 10:55:12 am Do yall find that the faster dogs won't stay with a track as long as the slower track running dogs or does it make a difference?
I would think a faster would burn out quicker. I know they would when I had fox hounds. Title: Re: Fastest ? Post by: Hamilton_hogger on February 18, 2013, 01:04:57 pm i have a bmc/cat that runs like a cheetahh and a c.d that is eighth border collie that will flat out get somewhere
