Best hog hunting books? Seems like a limited # of options here so I would like to know how to get my hands on more... Of the ones that I have read here are the ones i'd reccomend..
-Strike and Stay "The Story of the Plott Hound"-by Bob Plott
-The Hogdoggers Bible- Sean Kelley

Doesn't seem like enough books for such an awesome sport... I think the main reason is that people that want to hog hunt with dogs are always.... You guessed it HOG HUNTING!! Anyways, I want your reccomendations!!

Not sure of the name of it but Mr Perry has wrote 2 books I believe.

The book by Sean Kelly is a joke, I may be outta line saying it and if so, it can be removed, but Sean is nothing more then a dog peddler.  It's nothing more then a book of pictures.

He prefaced the book by saying that it wasnt anything more than a place to start for hog hunters. So, for me, it was exactly that. It gave some valuable information on dogs that I would have never heard of. It also gave some different strategies. BA-IV do you have any others you would recommend? I'm open to suggestions.

Jake, I'd love to hear the names of those books. Or at least the first name of the guy. I would be super interested in reading them! Thanks for the input bro.

I have read and would recommend Walk with Wick vol 1 & 2 its about coonhunting but the breeding knowledge and all aspects of dog handling are the same! We have used almost every aspect of those books to better our Kennels and OURSELVES AS DOG HUNTERS! We being Shotgun66 and myself. I personally thing it is a must read for any Dog Handler/ Breeder.

Walk with Wick and Mr. Perry's books as well.  I've read pieces outta all four and finished one or two. All real nice books.

I actually print threads from ETHD and read em when I have time so I'm not always staring at a screen.   topics on here cover a lot of info.  U can go back years at a time and find useful info....that's my way of learning. Plus -- it's fun reading other peoples arguments and learning what NOT to do @ doggin hogs!!!!  A plus ETHD

Del Cameron's Call of the Hounds is a good one. Most of it is just stories of his past hunts and great Blueticks that he owned but his thoughts on bringing up pups, conditioning, and teaching dogs to strike off the box are  awesome. Fred Gibson's Hound Dog Man is a good one. It's fiction but then again so is 95% of the hunts you see on t.v, just a neat read about how the old timers did stuff. You'll learn more by reading the journals of old cat hunters like the Lee Brothers, Slash Ranch, and Ben Lilly than you will from any self proclaimed hog hunting experts, at least from what I've seen out there so far. John Wick's books are still the Standard.

Meant that in what I've seen in the way of hog hunting books... There's always Awesome info on the boards that is useful. Just haven't seen anything in an actual book about hog hunting that was very informative or accurate. After Bayed Solid became Xtreme-blow em up with tannerite-Hog Hunter, there really isn't a whole lot out there that realistically shows working hog dogs. There's plenty of people on here that should get books out for sure.

I just found most of them on Amazon. It looks like a lot of them are out of print... So they are going to be more expensive than your average book but I am going to try and read every one I can get my hands on! I really appreciate it! The only thing that I enjoy almost as much as guy hunting is talking about hunting and reading about it!! I'll let you guys know when I get em in and I'll try and do some sort of review on every book I can!! Again I appreciate all the input!

Black river Bolly by Clyde Bounds. its about wisconsin bear hunting. you won't probably learn much buts its entertaining.

All of the Ben Lilly books are good. He was a famous bear and cat hunter from North Louisiana.

If I remember correctly it was Ben Lilly that took Teddy Roosevelt to kill a bear. I think it happened up around Tensas if my memory serves me right. At one time I was a big time historic hunter buff and read up on him, Fred Bear, Earnest Hemingway and a couple injuns... It was some good stuff

Holt collier's book is another good read

Ben Lilly took Teddy Roosevelt hunting, but after a couple of weeks of treeing nothing left Teddy with other members of the hunting party.  The dogs finally bayed a bear and one of the black men with the party roped it so Teddy could shoot it.  Teddy didn't have the heart to shoot it under those circumstanses.  The story was told when he got back to the city, and some stuffed bears were made during Teddy's next campaign.  This is how the "Teddy Bear" came about.

Wow I am almost finished with Newton Hyde's book "Love, Live to Hunt the Hog" it is fantastic!! I love reading books about guys that hunt like I do and for the same reasons!!
