Title: Two pigs, one kill
Post by: ChanceandAnita on January 04, 2015, 02:38:33 am
Decided we was gonna do an all night hunt so we loaded up the dogs and headed out.  On the road I told Chance it was gonna be SAMs night, jokingly. Sam is a plott hound we picked up not long ago from a fellow hunter. He is a pain in the butt dog at the house and has a lot of issues we are still working on but he hunts really hard. We get to our place turn the dogs loose and are grearing up. When All the dogs ran out, I checked the gps and Spot and Tank were 400 yards out made a sweeping circle and was coming back toward us. As I was counting dogs chance said Sam was moving out.

At 700 yards he opened up, dogs got to him and we could hear a good bay going. We started to them with the catch dogs.  I was a little behind chance cause of the mud...and i could hear our rough dogs starting to load up knew Yella Tank and Creeksus had caught. So I stopped and tied my catch dog Diesel knowing I wouldn't need him and headed toward chance. What I didn't know at the time was Chance had got to the bay and there was two pigs bayed up. he got 58 yards to the bay turned his catch dog loose the bay busted and he followed his pit cause it chase the pig running. Needless to say I come down the trail and the pig is squealing Creeksus and Sam have got both ears but chance and all the other dogs are not there. I start toward this black and white pig around 140 pounds to leg it and I hear spot and Clyde bark. Creeksus and Sam decide to turn  loose of the pig and responded to the other dogs. I'm  yelling catch it catch it...so now this pig is coming toward me grunting pissed off and I'm yelling for the dogs to come back and catch it, I  thought bout jumping on it for split second, when the  pig turns around and starts to run off in the brush, then I hear chance say get over hear Chico is cut pretty bad. 75 yards off the other dogs had stopped this nice boar.

Never thought we have a split bay, only heard the smaller pig squeal so i had no clue about the other, or my poor judgement not taking my catch dog in closer before I decided to tie him up or we would have had two pigs tonight. Had to do some stitch work on the dogs in the woods but think everyone will be ok...

I think my arrangement of dogs are doing really good, they are  not perfect by no means some being gamey and trash some are moody and lazy, if there is no pig sign. But I can say ... These dogs hunt well for us (hood, roading or walking) and If the pigs are there we are on them...catching good size pigs. Wish we didn't have to kill this one I bet he was 235 to 250 range.
