I have had excellent results with antibiotics and cut heal twice a day...works so well that most of the time stitches are not required...I use the pill form of antibiotics because I want to keep the pain to a minimum for the dog...makes for a better relationship between me and my dog...most of the time the scar is minimal and lot's of times it disappears...

I also like easy...

My absolute favorite that I've seen work wonders in some bad situations.....Vetericyn.

Vetericyn is pretty amazing stuff.I've all ways used it and liked it a lot but two weeks ago I went to look at a dog a boy had for sale a few towns over. Took my daughter to see em hunt showed up the dog was skin and bones and cut down I told him I don't need to see em hunt but he insisted dog did his job and about 30 mins had a decent sow caught .Bought the dog. Brought him home and went to doctoring they were to old to staple the back leg had a cut in the thigh 3" long and clean through to the inner hide with an exit wound about an inch up from that one his chest had a puncture that you could put your finger all the way in. 5ml penicillin and vetericyn 3 times a day and in one week all the way filled in and scabbed o
ver.wormed ivermectin,food and some lovin and he's a fine dog.

Vetricyn gel.  It's like bondo for animals.  Closed some big holes quick with it.

If I have a bad cut, I rotate cut and heal and vetricyne back and forth.

In your opinion which of the two works best?
I have tried the veterycin and it was not as good as the cutheal...but I used the one for the eyes and it works great for that...the ingredients for the eyes and topical were about the same but maybe it had something to do as to why it didn't work as well...

Someone mentioned the vegetation in the gel...maybe I should try that...I just want what is the best and maybe someone on here knows which is the best...I do know if it didn't smell like fish oil I would use it on me...  ;D

Cut and heal, heals quick. On some cuts you don't want them to heal up too quick, but rather heal from the inside out. Vetricyne does a lot better in my opinion, on helping a cut heal from the inside out. That's why I rotate the 2 out on deeper punctures and gouges.

I think basicly, if u stay on top of a wound using cut n heal, vetricyn or hose pipe water with oral or injectable antibiotics , u will be fine. I dont have cut n heal but have purple spray and it works pretty good, and i rarely try to close deep cuts, seems they're harder to keep clean and my dogs usually wind up pullin the staples out anyway. But if its a long cut i mit put one or two staples in to pull skin edges a lil closer together

thanks for your experiences using both...I remember using stitched way back and a friend told me about cut heal and I very seldom have to use sutures any more  because cut heal and antibiotics is hard to beat...I see a clear wound growing from the inside out and a smooth scar and most the time it won't be seen...but I am going to get me a bottle of the veterycin in the gel form...makes sense on account it will stick better...

cut heal reminds me quite a bit of the treatments my grand father had for us as little kids back in the day...smelled the same as cutheal minus the fish oil smell...he was born in 1882 so they used mostly home remedies...for sutures it was hair from a horse or mules mane or tail and kerosene or turpentine and if no sutures it was cob webs wrapped around the cut...I remember the burning sensation from the turpentine/kerosene...

another one of his favorites was volcanic oil...he always kept a bottle around for family or farm animals...used it for arthritis, cuts, or for whatever...
