Title: Bobtails Post by: jstankus on April 19, 2017, 02:41:40 pm Anyone bob there puppies tails with nail clippers? My mother has always done this with her jack Russell's. I'm sold on it and she said to do it the day the pups are born.
Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Title: Re: Bobtails Post by: Goose87 on April 19, 2017, 09:03:19 pm I do it on just about all the cur pups I raise, I use a pair of wire cutters, pull the hide back toward the base of the tail and try to find a bone joint if you can, just snip it with the cutters and if need be have a pair of scissors on hand in case you need to finish cutting through the hide, if you do it within the first few days most of the time they won't even whimper or bleed, I put a touch of alum powder on them and their good to go, about once a week I'll pull the scab off, the reason I do it is because I CANNOT stand a tail beating up side a box while I'm trying to listen for other dogs or something and not only that it's extremely thick down here and after several hours of running the tips on their tails will be whipped off from the briars and they will be bleeding a little, it's my theory that they need all the blood and fluid they can get while running and any lost is eventually energy lost...
