I've never seen in my type dogs where light colored dogs get hit more often than one of a different color. Hesitation and holding style are about the only reason one of mine will take a hit as a young developing dog. Plus i don't run more than 2 dogs. More than 1 dog per side reduces the dogs ability to hold clean. Of course it's a much different game and scenario with bay doggers and their style dogs. Out of a couple hundred catches I might see 1 or 2 hits in the plate covering the shoulders. Might get one wound per year also. Light colored dog or dark, doesn't matter

I am saying when I send bulldogs to bay they are missing on initial hit. Hog breaks and we run it another 2 or 3 hours and might bay it again or might not. Either way you are losing hogs either that particular hog or others that you could have been after during this 2 or 3hour chase. I run bay dogs not rcd's or rough curs. Yes they will put their outh on a hog after the bulldogs catches and then they will leave when I get there. I am just trying to up my odds without going to rough curs cause that ain't gonna happen.
OK, I see what your saying. Yeah a good bulldog will fix that.

Are you saying the dog is missing b/c he is fighting with the hog, the hog breaks the bay and runs before the dog gets ahold or....?

I'm not claiming to be an expert by any stretch, but way I understand it dogos were bred to hunt anything they csme across cuz poeple who developed them (in argentina) were hunting for food. Not sport. Dogos are BIG dogs and are not supposed to be bay dogs. They are run down and grab dogs that hunt in groups.

Guess the one plus to being a highschool coach is i have the whole summer off for quick morning hunts. Heres my young crew i will be putting to work this summer. Heres Sunny, just turned a year old and has found his own a few times already and showing to be a future for me, but will also run anything with a heart beat. Winfrey bred Heres P-Wee, also around a yr old and has the hunt and bottom i like in a dog. Winfrey bred Heres curly, hes about 8-9months now, out of very good cold nosed rangy dogs. High hopes. Winfrey bred Heres bobbi, shes curlys littermate and is probably the most high strung pup ive had. Hates a hog and very fast. Natural bob tail. Winfrey bred You got those from Oprah? j/k They look good, What breed are they?

close related can mean several things...if both pedigrees are almost the same then you could be breeding yourself in to a corner very quick...if there are some dogs on one side that are related and not so much on the other then I would breed to the relative if they both hunt like you like...the chances of you getting what you want are in your favor...
This is #2 in the post I made.

HOG & DOGS / GENERAL DISCUSSION / Re: Why bulldogs are worthless.

Pros- Bulldogs hunt. Tree squirrel. Catch hogs.. Babysit the kids and protect the property. Cons- GOOD bloodlines are very people AGGRESSIVE. If your bulldog isn't aggressive , you have a p.o.s according to breed standards. Point blank- They bite. They will kick another's dogs butt and probably ruin it... But have never seen one start a fight... Never seen one back down a either.. I know bulldogs that hunt deeper and harder than most of you guys cur dogs.. Yeah if they catch it, they prolly gonna killed it... Go figure when you own 120 pounds of muscle that dream about biting something every night. The real problem is grown ass men are buying these dogs because they have the money.... But didn't take 2 seconds to learn what the dog is or is capable of.. Then they get mad and go on about how their dogs are doing exactly what it was breed to do. American bulldog = best catch dog in the world+ one of the Most aggressivet People biter. They love and will die for its family.
Pit bulls= fighting dog.. Point blank. If your PITBULL isn't fighting.... Then you have a P.o.s. You damn right it jumped on your hunting dog. "Wtf" it supposed to. The rest are mostly mixed breeds of the 2 or God know what.... Just because you spent big money on a big dog, doesn't mean it is what you think it is.. This is a forum dealing with dog and dogmen... All i see is whining and crying cause you spent your money on papers and pretty kennnel set ups! You walk right by the ole timer dogman who has a line of dogs his family been breeding for generations. You got mad because his dogs where tied to a tree or pole.. And lives in a chewed up house... Yeah people walk right by these old bloodlines and go buy junk cause some one was waving papers and showing off how much money they spent one housing for their dogs. Most are too dang dumb to realize that when they go buy an expensive dog, they are paying mostly for the nice set up they dog lives in as well and the owners big house. (Bigger than your) and that fancy ass car and monster truck in the yard. Yeah y'all like giving these type of people your money just so you can go back and brag on how much your spent and what all it's suppose to be on paper.. BOTTOM LINE.. Get your dogs from DOGMEN... Not from somebody that just stuck 2 dogs together and only been dealing with dogs since they started chasing pigs .. Keep buying dreams because people will keep selling you one .... !!!
120 lbs...? People aggressive? Sir, this is no indication of an American bulldog. I raise working abs. I track the lineages and know whats in them and what is not in them. Good working weight doesn't exceed 100 lbs and mine top out in the 80's. I know of some in the 90's that work out great in the woods as well. Another thing is they aren't people aggressive unless they are provoked. Anyone who knows dogs understand a confident dog is outgoing and has no reason to be outwardly aggressive until called upon. A dog that is aggressive without provocation is a liability and most of the time acting out of fear. And just fyi I have worked with well known trainers on disposition evaluation of bulldogs including the late Tom Richie. So I am not just posting an opinion without having done the research. Sounds like your working with JDJ stock, and since you mentioned people over paying for big dog stock that people think is cool? That's exactly what JDJ stock is.

I have a really tight bred gyp that is young and coming along great. If she proved herself to breed one day would you breed to a close related dog, or breed to the best dog you've ever hunted behind that hunts in a similar way, but isn't related.

There are different avenues you could go, but 1st make sure the dog you go to is a good dog. Good dog meaning fits what you like. I like to use a breeding to add things I don't have enough of and/or reinforce things I have and want to keep. You say the gyp is tightly bred 1) does the closely related dog have all the same ancestors or 2) does it have some unrelated ancestors in there? Since you say she is tightly bred I would probably look into #2 if there is a good dog that fits that. Now the unrelated one is it 3) scatterbred or is it 4) tightly bred for its own family? Scatterbred would be harder for you to match up the hunting style. So I would look into #4 here. Keep in mind this only works if the dogs are good at what they do and healthy.

Anyone know of any? Need a couple transported to Chicago from Ky and another couple transported from Chicago to Tx. Can use two different transporters if necessary. I used to use Prodog but they do not service the areas I need anymore.
