The right hound blood has always been a foundation in making cur cow dogs down here. Old timey, leggy, Redbones and Leopard hounds have always been at the top of the list. I have met some boys here in Tn that breed plott crosses. Way too much bark to breed out of them in my opinion. They do excel at treeing bears though.

  I haven't used a Plott on cattle but a long time ago I had one get loose a time or two while gathering cattle at home that came to me and worked. He didn't display as much get ahead or lead as the Curs.
  And yes, it is just another sport that I enjoy.
  We gather and or catch cattle for people pretty regularly, especially when it is in the seasons cattlemen are gathering to work and sell them.

  I had an accidental breeding a while back Plott/BMC and I have kept one to piddle with. Just want to see what he'll do, Pretty good lookin OL'pup, actually looks like Slim might have raised him and given him to me. I have been going to take some pictures of some of the dogs and when I do I'll include a pic of him.

You are letting those Georgia boys rub off on u. If you need to carry a Bulldog to the pasture with you to anchor hogs, the no more than 2 Curdogs you have on the ground need to be shot Ribbin you dawg

Those wooden "West Texas Goat Rack's" sure do make taken the hide off easier.

You got me with the whole human pedigree thing there big dawg. None of my people even smart enough to dig up and be able to post no sh#t like that, being the simple Cowmen and Commercial Fisherman we are. Did have some kin that rode  drove and fought with The Confederate Cow Calvary though. You let me know when you get some "first hand knowledge" as to what was bred into the Cur Cow Dogs of my family and almost every other Old Florida Family around and below Lake Okeechobee    And once again, you ever come across a line of dogs that look like my white "Sissy" dog, that have the natural desire to head and bunch cattle, you let me know. I'd like to take a look at them. I'm out son.

Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama, but not South/Central Florida. With all those Generations in the Deep South, how many, if any, old timey Florida Cowmen(Crackers), as we are called here, have you or your Kin discussed Cur Cow Dogs with.

I have read where the black and tan coloration in the old Leopard dogs was "supposed" to have came from the Beauceron, a dog of French decent.

Which makes perfect sense , something these "pit" Bulldog guys just don't have much of

Let me broaden my brush. Dog fighting is not only for white trash and n#ggers, but also every other race's "trash". Again, this is only my opinion and also the opinion of those "Crackers" I was raised around I have no problem offending those who need offending

The thing about it is most every cur line has some bull dog in them at some point as do many other breeds. I would say bulldogs as a whole are the most capable breed there is. And that came from hundreds of yrs of battle. Everyone has the right in America to have there own thoughts. But a narrow mind brings narrow opinions

Big difference between "Pit" Bulldogs and Bulldogs where I come from. One was bred to fight and the other was bred to work, period.

Bury him deep and keep breedin them rough Mark.  Find dog, bay dog, catch dog, help dog. All a bunch of horsenumber 2. Back home there are only "Cur" dogs and they had better be able to do it all by themselves

Warrant, he's a stock dog not a catch dog. he will take hold of one if he tries to run but will turn him loose and bay when stopped. He's a lead dog on cattle and will stop a run off. Cooper is probably not your cup of tea but suites my program just fine. If everyone liked the same thing, there would be one dog in the world and we all would be fighting over it.

10-4 Definitely different working styles when it comes to Cur Cowdogs.  A lot depends on what part of the country you are standing in, as well. Back home, being a "catch dog", when required, was always part of the deal with our dogs. He's a good looking sucker anyway. Keep him and his blood "working"
