HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Lost eye

What’s people’s experience with dogs that have lost an eye from a pig, I’m in Australia an run finder holders but have a dog about 2 year old that was hunting good moving his way up the ranks an got busted up on a pig an lost his eye, it’s healed up an I’ve just started hunting him again. Hes only been on 3 hunts an hasn’t lost any confidence in holding just not hunting out as far as he was before it happened, hopefully he’s just getting use to it? Time will tell I guess

Just smarter in my opinion, she did most of her career one out an very rarely got more then a scratch on her. she would let out a couple barks when she first got to the pig then lug it an if she was getting a touch up or I took too long to get to her she would let go an bark again an as soon as she seen me she would lug up. I have t seen many dogs do it but if it was a good size pig she would kinda bark while she had a hold of it. ( I have a video of it but I don't know how to post videos) Another bull Arab bitch I'm running at the moment an my number one now. All good I like talking dogs, An seeing other people hunt their dogs. I'm my opinion the bull Arab is like the cat an black mouth cur dogs theirs good ones in them an plenty of ok ones once a breed gets popular the wrong people start breeding then for the wrong reasons just have to get them off the right people.

Thanks, I hunt them off the tray of the ute or on a 4 wheeler loose if it's cool an only try too do sight work when it's hot as they r pretty hard an won't let go an bark. I like the 4 wheeler if I'm by myself get to better spots to hunt then an I can get to them much quicker not having to walk/jog as often. They usually go between 400m an a 1000m sometimes more sometimes less. I've got one old cross breed dog at the moment that I'd swap any of the other I'm running to have back hunting.

Glad to hear u still got runt I Had a lot of fun with him, how r your stag/bulldog bitches going ? U breed your catch dog back over one of those bitches didn't u? They started? Their r some nice lines of bull Arabs out their u just have to get them off people that r hunting hard an proving their dogs! I reckon they have the same troubles as pure breed dogos, cats, black mouth curs they get popular an get breed by the wrong people coz they r worth money! Hear an in the states most of the best hunting dogs I've seen were crossbreed dogs. The ones I've got have a top speed of about 31mph. I would say that maybe the only reason finding/holding dogs hear in aus mite be better is for the sole reason that this style of dog has been breed an run a lot longer then they have in the states? I never seen anyone running them while I was their an not a lot of the guys I hunted with over their run rcd's either. But don't worry theirs plenty of average dogs hear too.

A couple of dogs I'm running hear in aus. The first one is a Paulson bull Arab bitch A Brian Neal bull Arab bitch Both bitch's r about 82lb an 2 year old strait catch, I only wind them off the back of the ute, I haven't done any walk hunting with them. A male 10 month old Paulson line bull Arab An the last one is a 4 year old cross breed bitch with mainly Dane/bully/boxer but prob has a few more crosses in it, she's a very smart dog strait catch if it was sight work an if u were hunting her she would let out 2 or 3 barks when she got to the pig then catch, if u took too long to get to her she would let go an bark again till u got their an catch again ( I really like that) she is about 74lb caught a lot of pigs by herself.

Yeah I uses to have her, the guy I gave her to breed her to a Dane/pit dog I don't know if he still has her. Both dogs r a long way from pure breed dogs the black dog has wolfhound an deerhound base mainly but would have some other crosses in him, he's pretty handy finding off the back of the ute an a good sight dog too, he's a hard dog but very smart if u take too long getting to him he will let go an bark till u get their, the guy that owns him never runs a vest on him an he has never had any major injuries ( I like a vest but it's not my dog) the white dog is a very hard dog an a good finder off the ute no where near as fast as the black dog, he's got Dane, wolfhound bull Arab in him, he's prob only a 1/4 hairy dog. The white dog would be around 100lb an the black one a bit lighter.

Like Aussie black mouth curs said their r quite a few people running crosses hear in aus with cattle dog in them, the ones I've seen had pretty good noses with alot of drive an should be hard. If u have proper working cattle dogs I don't think they will bark at a pig the ones we have for working cattle r very ruff an will hang if a cow bails up no bark, they will get culled if they bark at a cow. A down side too them is alot of them don't mind too fight!

Zoey almost 2 now. I've had to start out with dogs since I've moved home to aus but was lucky enough to get this gyp as a big pup of my father. she is out striking mates older dogs constantly now. All work done finding off ute/4 wheeler. Usually lets out 2 or 3 barks when she finds a pig then catches, smart enough to let go an bark again if it takes me too long to get to her. T.willbanks u have some nice style dogs looks like they could cover alot of country
