HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Catahoula/Dogo Cross

Has anybody else have any experience with the Cat/do mix. I was given one a year ago, a two yr. old male with limited hunting experience. He is turning into one fine dog. He is big, with the head of a dogo, a white coat with spots and weighs 100lbs even. I got him as a potential catch dog, but he is turning out to be way more than that. He has a great nose, better than or as good as the curr dogs he is running with and more often than not is the pack hog locator. Of course he handles the catching activities as well. Just a jammed up dog in general. Recently I was delayed getting to a bay which was delayed by water obstruction (had to go get a boat). When I finally arrived, the dogs had killed a 130 lb. ish boar. I have no doubt he was the main instrument of death, the boar left some marks on him as well. The boar in the photo is a different animal. mg]

My dogs and I have been huffing it on foot as my wheeler has been broken for 3 weeks. Since my travels have been limited by my old legs I've been hunting across the highway from my residence. Haven't done two bad as I've gotten 7 hogs during this time and a lot of good exercise to boot. Between sugar busters and the exercise incurred I've lost 10 lbs. Got this little boar today, it was my puppy Blanche's first confirmed find. She as well as her two other pack mates deserved a couple of atta girls for there efforts. img]

I'm 62, still hunting one or two days a week. Can't run too far, but can walk at a good clip all day. Have to wait on the younger guys sometimes.

Where abouts is in La. did you guys hunt if you don't mind me asking? I LOVE dogos, my cd is an american bulldog/dogo mix. I swear sometimes he can read my mind. I'd like go get a full blood bitch one day to go with my male.
Great pics and story.

Appreciation to one and all for the warm welcome. But to ff, that's not a wolf, it's obviously a redfox. The guy in the snow, my son-in-law is responsible for getting me into this hog dog thing. I think he took a shot at the fox, but missed.

Too bad about your dog, this is a tuff sport for the dogs. We lost one so far this year, and had a bunch get nicked. But heck, there's no doubt that the dogs live for it, and would be less for it, if they weren't able to hunt.
Good Luck in the future.
Regards, Larry
