If the dogs and hogs cross when the river is 3/4 or more bank like in that picture,  They will end up 1/3 of a mile or more down stream by the time they get to the other bank.  I always worry that they will get hung up and giant cottonwood floating down the middle or get washed into a cut bank and cant get up it.
