Yep can get 45lbs of chicken backs from the processing plant in Houston for $5 what I have been supplementing mine with and it is fresh.
Here was his reply to my email
"It is in boxes (typically 40#) and inspected.  It was meat that was purchased fresh and moved to the freezer once it reached the maximum number of days that it could be stored refrigerated. "
