Mandy, it's only pretty to look at if you dont have to be out in it. the first big snow last week started out with an inch or so of sleet. i sure hated to see the ice sickles hangin off them crossbred cows ears. we have had a few calves born lately and looks like there will be some froze ears on em. last night was around 13 below zerow, their callin for 2 or 3 below tonight, but 50's-60's this weekend. that'll melt it all off then we'll get to play in the mud for a while instead of snow. years ago we had some frozen feet and tails on cattle and one time had a bull lay down and freeze his equipment to the ground.
OUCH !!! had to cull a big pretty bramer cow last year cause she couldnt walk good on frozen ground. hopefully we wont have anything worse than frozen ears this time. i remember a week or 2 ago, some threads about keepin dogs warm in cold weather. mine have survived 10-15 below nights latey in plastic barrels or wooden-tin-roofed dog houses with just plent of grass hay in em. got 2 pups 3 & 4 months old in separate pens that made it just fine. snow is deeper than they are tall.
