I make mine out of 3/16 uncoated cable and 1/4 rubber tubing. I have a home made set of crimpers i made out of a set of bolt cutters(ground notches with a grinder). I use alum. crimps and havent had any problems so for (knock on wood). I try not to crimp close to the edge of the ferrules. I crimp the ends with my snaps first, then i slide tubing down leaving just enough bare cable for my handle, then i slide on my next ferrule, steel o-ring, snap for handle(optional) then tubing for handle, stick then end in the ferrule and crimp.
