No BIGBEN, it is not mandatory, and odds of finding a suspect print are very, very, VERY slim.
Most homes, a good Crime Scene Investigator could find 10,000 prints in, imagine the time it would take to dust, lift and analyze.
Now, if there was something specific that could be printed, that's another story.
Say a window that was opened, door knob (odds are it was jeopardized by homeowner or police), water glass, or tool left behind by suspect.
Those are things that might have a print on them, but again, it must be something they would know the suspect touched.
The item printed must me non-porous and smooth, be touched with a bare hand (non-gloved) and have zero moisture on it for a print to be useful.
It ain't like on tv, prints, blood and semen in every crime scene, and even if it were, there would have to be that print, blood or semen on file for comparison. Grin
