I have started some bmc pups that are about 10 months old. They know what they are supposed to be hunting for and are doing great in the pen. On my last hunt my dogs split and the male pup went off chasing his own hog. He trailed\chased it over 950 yrds before i lost communication with him on the gps. This is way farther than I want him going. Should I try to break him from going so far or should i wait till he gets older and see if he can stop the running hogs? And If I should try to break him from going so far how should I do it?
I just can't see how you can train a dog to be short range and still catch a hog. More than likely the dog would be ruined if it were being trained to be a short range dog.
A hog nowadays will run and run. It ain't squirrel hunting that is for sure...
