well I will put my opinion in but out here in nm and west tx hunting is way diffrent for we do not have very much thick brush but id say anything under 600 is close and medium 3/4 mile and long over 3/4 mile
note we have farm land in sections wich is a mile x a mile square

that makes sense what you are saying...but here in southeast texas a medium range dog 300 to 600 yard dog about gets us in trouble. But a medium range dog can go miles to put a hog at the other end of the tracks.
