me and my brothers as kids used to kill them off on the farm until we about wiped them out and then we would do it all over again...we filled the holes full of water with a water hose and when we saw the waves coming up the dogs were ready and they caught and killed most of the rats and my brothers and I got a few with sticks or whatever...like you said...it was a ton of fun...
Thats sounds like the way Buck dancing was invented. It must have started at a rat stompin. I lifted a board out by our grain bins one time and about 6 mice took off in different directions. I was buckdancing till I got em all stomped.
