this is just my own view but an e collar shoud be used to get a dog to listen to your voice commands not to do what its not supposed to do as you are the leader of the pack a dog needs to be tuned into your commands

We work our dogs very differently here. Our dogs are mostly what you term RCD's.
As long as you use a verbal command we say "get off" or "out of it" (words are less important than the tone) and then zap the dog it will be fine. Keep zapping it until it stays away from the pig. This will make the dog more controllable around pigs and overall a better dog. I teach dogs to leave the pig (and then listen to me, so back this up with a command like - sit or load up etc ) from the very first time they see a pig. Stuff like barking or mauling a dead pig is dealt with fairly harshly.
It doesn't make then softer or "less game" it just turns there ears on.
