Gary was that hen her sisters and brothers were they crosses are was they linebred are inbred ?  I have seen what you are talking about before but almost always it was a cross .  The dogs were great great dogs and producers but they were crosses to start out with and they produced great great dogs but it just petered out you know what I mean .  I never seen this to much if the said hen are dog were family bred , just didn't see it much but the said hen are dog being a cross yes I have seen that a lot of times what you are talking about.
