I may be wrong but I always figured that the dogs they used and listed first they looked at as a foundation of a house. Their idea of what a BMC should be. The best examples known to them.

Like any organization of course the founders feel their dogs are worthy or they would have different standards. Everyone talks about kennel blindness but I promise easier said than done.
