my opinion for what its worth is that you shouldnt have even hunted the dog yet. some dogs hunt for the human and some hunt for themselves. i think this one hunts for his master and you aint it yet. and did you discuss returning the dog if he didnt suit you prior to buyin it. hope it all works out  for the buyer,seller and the dog.
