when the dog is winding sometimes what he smells from the back of the truck he will not be able to smell what is in the wind once he hits the ground in some cases...so you figure how the wind is channeling and walk in that direction (into the wind) once the dog gives it up on his first try...chances are he was winding hog...and you can guide him in that direction until he picks up on the scent again...good handling will bring out the best in the dog...
