These dogs do have some of the same blood as the W. Ben dogs but have been bred quite differently, they "typically" have lots of get ahead and square up, are not catchy, varying degrees of bite to stop cattle or bring one back that tries to leave from pretty rough to pretty mild, mostly in between. I do not want a dog snatching and grabbing around cattle that are bunched and handling. I want them to back up and bark, I don't want them circling while driving cattle but up front leading and controlling the speed.
I've had some that would not bite a cow and some that started out with too  much bite around a bunch but I can knock that out of them in a short time.  Some are natural lead dogs and some I have to ask them to back up when driving while they are young and fresh. You don't have to worry about them catching baby calves, in 40 some years I have raised 2 that would do that, they didn't live to be old.
