I wonder why it matters ?  If thier dogs found/caught a hog, don't they deserve the credit for it?  Who is the approving authority on hog dog credit, and how does one apply?   I just want to make sure I've got the right amount, not too much or too litte....

The bottom line is, unless it affects you, who cares what somebody else thinks of their dogs, and if their dogs do a good job and they want to tell about it then more power to them, at least until it comes off as cocky bragging.  If you don't like listening to somebody, you don't have to hunt with them.

i've been wondering that for over 50 years......haven't figured it out yet...so that means I probably won't and neither will you. It's just the way some folks are.....we had a Chief at the fire dept. like that once, only way he thought he could build himself up was to dog other people. But it caught up with him! lol

He's probably jealous of you because you have better dogs and more land to hunt than he does.  If anyone truly knows him they will know he is a liar just like you do.  So take the high road and keep the land owners happy and if they are men of honor the will stick with you.

If you've been taking care of your business and "your" landowners are satisfied with the terms of letting you hunt, what are you worried about?

If they deny you access to hunt because somebody they don't even know shows up and starts dogging your program, perhaps the landowners themselves are the ones you should really be concerned with...

I have always believed and said if somebody is willing to talk trash about you and your dogs then you must be doing something right. That they must do that to make them feel better.  You just have to remember what goes around comes around and most folks like that do not last long in this sport. Or atleast that is what I have seen in the past.

The only problem I've got with running my dogs with a dog whos owner hyped them up  just to have them not honor my dogs is that my dog ends up with no reenforcement and I could have brought another of my dogs. Once I was hunting with a guy who for weeks before the hunt was saying how good his dog was and could be run "one out" and rack pigs, But when the day of the hunt came his dog spent alot of time running around out of sight and every time the dgos would hit one the guy would look at me and point out that it was his dog that made that hit and how good the dog was! I finally got a little bothered to the point of sayign something and the next time he turned to me and said "My dog is mean ah??" I told him yeah you should tell the dog that, Not me! He caught the drift and never said a word the rest of the day and also when we hunted again he never brings a dog any more!

Now as far as downing on my dogs I enjoy the outdoors as much as I enjoy working my dogs by myself so let's run just your dogs!

That does put things in a little different light.  Hopefully with the landowner, your ACTIONS will overrule this other fellas TALK.  As to why somebody would do that, I wish I knew the answer.

just let him keep talking and soon enough he wont have anyone to talk to, everyone will get tired of his mouth and wont invite anymore, your better off saying your dogs are ok and let them prove themselves that way if they have a bad day you dont look like a jackass, and if they do good people will say dang thats what you call ok them some jam up dogs Grin

Well there is one thing i have learned over the yrs is that you can lie about a dog all you want, but a dog will tell on its owner everytime.
but on the other hand, i have seen some pretty good dogs that would look like crap if you took them around strange dogs and/or people. like was stated earlier a dog will make a lier out of you everytime, at least mine have, so i have learned to never bragg on my dogs ability, and that dogs are not robots, they will act differently in different situations, they do have a mind of their own.
As far as why do people talk trash, and beef up their dogs that aint worth a crap? well i guess its just wishful thinking and alot of jealousy.

look at it this way old saying (some people would rather climb a tree to tell a lie than stand on the ground and tell the truth) It never has bothered me for someone to say mine struck or treed  or bayed or caught because if you know your dogs GOD and you know what they did who cares what anybody else thinks.

Yep! It is simply just the way some folks are but it always catches up to them.
