i have a question and need some advice from some experienced bmc doggers. I have a male bmc that is 5 years old and has never been real gritty at all, i recently added a bmc gyp to my pack and now its like the male is no bay at all straight catching everything. Anybody have any advice on how to stop that i mean i dont mind a little grit but i dont want him to get cut down from being this way and his age he aint the most agile dog anymore. i was just wondreing if you guys think he will quite or you think he will stay like this? please any advice will be much appriciated.

The age might also be a factor not just the introduction of the new dog. Alot of my older dogs get rougher with age. Some that were slightly gritty for years became almost straight catch by 8 or 9 yrs. Guess they were able to feel a hog out faster to see if he was soft or not. Just a thought.

Same as a young man flirting and an old man sealing the deal.  Grin

Whats the rest of your pack consist of??  Were you using the 5 yr old as a strike dog and turning catch dogs in to him or what??? How many hogs has he tag teamed with the new dog with so far, are they easy sows or slow easy fat boars or is he catching bad boars only?? Guess you could run him with a muzzle of some kind if he does not rub it off,,,,,or add 4 more curs to the pack so hog has less chance to cut anybody down by singleing 1 dog out and charging?Huh?

ya to me sounds like she is getting rough with him or the older age thing I think can also be not being as athletic as before and catching to hold their ground instead of moving out of the way jmo
