Tone a dog off a hog???

Is there anyone that can tone a dog back when it's baying a hog or in pursuit?
My dog got on the neighbors today and he has a rep of calling fish and game on people, he was baying hard but it kept breaking, he was way outa bounds, so I gave him a little shock and he came back, I sure don't like doing that, but i can't be getting in trouble either, sure wish there was a better way to handle that situation, any ideas?

If that dog is a sure enough hog dog u won't never break him from a hog never light him up for it but just enough to say come on   But besides that if u hunt off a car or wheeler rig a horn on it and train him to come get in with that horn and I mean stop in his tracks when he hears that horn then u won't have to shock him no more

Yep... I train all mine to the tone. Once they know the tone means to come in, a little shock won't break them off hogs. It keeps you from trespassing and you can call them off a long race if you need to leave or they're about to cross property lines.

Yep, mike pretty well covered it. the man I get my dogs from doesn't tone em off but he can call his dogs off a hog if he doesn't want to mess with it and roll on to find another. Its pretty damn impressive, but he is the exception, not the norm. He works with his dogs ALOT and it shows, they have the handle of a bird dog, pretty cool to watch.

Didnt mean to side track but my point was YES you can absolutely tone OR call your dog off a hog or a race, just takes putting in the time with em to achieve that type handle with a dog, not something that happens overnight.

I hunt where there is a lot of m44s set in the area and I can steer my dogs thru them like a obstacle course when they get  near them. Tone them in and also tone pups off of dead hogs.

I'd like to hear some of yalls methods for toning them back. I want to train mine to a whistle.  When that whistle blows I was the dogs to come back. I need to get back out to shake rag kennels. Any of yall ever heard of him?. I've never seen a man with a handle on his dog's the way he does. He was showing me his hounds one day and my wife and I were super impressed to say the least.

I yell "natural lite" and they haul tail to the truck. Cause my dogs will bring me a cold one. Do yours?? I'm totally kidding. Tone is the way to go buddy. Hear the tone and come on back. It's funny to watch kinda. Mine like 1.2 1.3 1.4- tone!! Especially if off my places. And it's like 1.3, 1.0, .7, 900 yrds. 780yrds. There in a hurry to come get me a cold beer haha

I got jagd thats a pain in the ass on a hunt and at the house he likes to stay just out of range to grab him but i picked up a cheap shock collar with a tone  he will come when he hear's the tone in the yard i yet to use it in the field but i want to find out soon. I usually can get him at the hog when we are are caught but if i dont its a nightmare.

Georgia-Hawgs I use the whistle on my deer dogs and I also use it on my hog dogs.  I want tell you they are 100% but I vibrate or tone them and use the whistle and it works real good.  We hunt some small properties and you have to have a handle on your dogs.   Like you've read it just takes time and working with the dog to train them.

We have one particular piece of property that we hunt that the land owner always goes with us and on the very 1st hunt we were on a boar that crossed off of this man's property and he visible saw the dog stop and come back when we toned the dog and used the whistle.  Needless to say he was very impressed and said he would not have believed it unless he saw it with his own eyes.

Thats what im looking for. I'm funny about getting off the property.  Sometimes you cant avoid it but I like to do all I can do to help prevent a "situation". My wife got me the alpha and I want to take full advantage of it. Thankfully I have a couple of dog's that like to obey my commands and listen good for the most part.

Mine and blastns dogs will come back very fast if we start toning them. You can almost watch them turn around and sprint back on the alpha. Now if they are looking at a hog good luck they aren't going to leave we just got to get there.

I've had a few guys tell they wouldn't own a dog that could be called off by verbal commands.    I can call ANY of mine off if I can get close to them baying.    As far as the tone goes all mine will honor it and come in but I reallt like to get close enough for verbal commands but in certain situations its a must.

Georgia-Hawgs we go as far as creating the boundaries in base-camp and then loading it to the Garmin and choose "show on map" under the tracks manager so that you know when your dog is getting close to the line.

Im ordering a card called onXmaps. Its supposed to show all property lines along with land owner names. What do yall think the is the best way to train a dog to "drop everything" and come on back is ? With a whistle.
