The Skinners and I had been threatening to make a hunt together for sometime, and finally this past weekend I was able to convince them to head north.  Unfortunately, Texas_Cur got sick and wasn't able to make the trip but Cull Buck rolled into town about 2:30 on Saturday.  We met up at the ranch, had a few drinks and tried to get a game plan together.  We decided to make a short hunt at a property close by that afternoon, then I had plans for another spot Sunday morning.

Gentry, Darrell, Richard, Braydon and I loaded up and headed out about 4:30.  We arrived at the spot, met the land owner who has been tagging along and having a blast, unloaded and headed to the woods.  I read this all the time on posts, and wonder if often it's BS (cause it rarely happens to us Smiley ), but in less than five minutes the dogs were bayed solid.  We unloaded bulldogs and headed in.  A couple guys had gone ahead and were hollering back to turn catchdogs loose...big hog!  We sent three dogs, and the hog broke before they got there.  We saw the hog cross an opening and the dogs were able to get it stopped and caught in the open.

We re-grouped, moved a good ways and sent another set of dogs out.  Again, within minutes they were hammering down.  A couple guys headed towards the bay and I was trying to get one of my pups out of the buggy and send him.  Accidentally, one of my older dogs slipped out.  Just as this dog slipped away, the hog had broke and was coming out across the open field.  The dog had a good angle and was able to catch the hog and roll her in the field.  It was a dog pile at that point!

With two good hogs down quickly, we decided to return to the ranch for steaks and get ready for Sunday.  On Sunday the same group met up with Travis and his son for a hunt at another nearby spot which usually produces very well.  Not much really to write about on Sunday.  Lots of hunting, covering ground, and young dogs that were flat blowing the back end out of the woods, but we ended up with only one skunk to show for our efforts.

It was a great weekend, with great folks that I would go to the woods with anytime!

Caught Hog!  My young bulldog "Catch" decided it was time to lock and hold!

Group Shot

My main hunting partner.  No telling how many hogs this boys been on.  Just about got him finished out!

Lots of chatting, and waiting on the dogs.

A few dogs on the hunt.  Lots of young dogs, who hunted exceptional!

Bored catchdogs.

I am sorry I had to miss out on that one.  Richard was sure to fill me in on all the stories and I got to tell you it only made me feel worse.  Bryant we will have to have you come down to the swamp and make a hunt real soon.  Thanks again for the invite.

Good Pics!!

Its not always BS, last night before i could unload all the dogs and lock the doors on my truck, we had a solid bay about 300 yards out.
I LOVE IT WHEN THAT HAPPENS!!  Grin

Thanks for the invite Bryant.  You guys do it up right with great dogs on some beautiful properties.  A coastal swamp rat sure can get spoiled hunting on dry ground like that.

That was my first hunt with some real casting dogs and its was pretty impressive.  I've never seen a dog role out over a mile just looking for a track.  Shocked
