We kick out my dogs and miller lites dogs and miller lite decides to start working the dogs in the woods while me and cpasket get our gear together. My Weezy dog goes with miller lite and my two puppies stay with me. So cpasket drops his dogs and we head into the woods as we are working our way towards my dog with miller lite. We strike one and it runs and we get smoked I notice I lost Weezy on my garmin so we are working our way towards where I lost him at and I pick him up at 1.2miles so we are heading to them and we strike another one and we get to 70 yards we send my bulldog Stormy and cpaskets bulldog rosey in and we hear the bay break and off it went. So we start going towards Stormy and we hear a bay way way off as we call for our bulldogs to turn around and come back I see stormy is making her way to the Trinity river and miller lite. so we go to them after what seems like 10 miles through a swamp (which is way to much for this fat boy) we see the river and hear the dogs fighting with a hog as soon as we see the river bank all I can see through the tall grass is the dogs on the other side of the river fighting a hog as we get through the grass we can see miller lite and Tony holding my bulldog. We get to them and the first thing miller lite says to me is lets go to them he lets Stormy go and off she went and we were right behind her. Tony is the best swimmer in the bunch so he gets across without a problem but me and miller lite were not so lucky and almost drowned. Tony gets back in after he sees miller lite struggling for air he starts to pull miller lite and the dog miller lite was drowning to stay afloatin to the bank (the dog was fine peta). As I see tony going to stick the hog I am starting to inhale water I barely make it across and Im still not sure how I did but me and miller lite are on the bank coughing up the water in our lungs. We get to thinking how we were going to get back across this 80 yards of pure hell as we were looking for a log to float across on we hear a boat and flag them down and get a ride across. We find out that cpasket has lost his bulldog and his brindle dog. All of the dogs swam across except miller lites goose and jane which took the most beating we cant even see goose but the garmin says hes on the river bank so we think he might be hurt so we wait and wait and wait some more and we hear a boat we flag them down and they gave us a ride to get his dogs but we get them on the boat and were beat at this point so we make our way out cpasket goes back to the truck to get the 4wheeler to look for his dogs and me and miller lite strike again and as we head to them we see a big gator probably around 12 ft as he slides in the water. We call the dogs off because we didn’t feel like swimming anymore and head for the truck we get back and cpasket got a call saying they found his bulldog and as we were loading up cpaskets brindle dog shows up so we called it a day. Im not sure if any of yall have swam across the trinity river but I don’t recommend it. It has currents that you cant imagine. A 70 yard swim turns into a 300 yard fight for your life. Never again will I step foot in that river! Its not a good picture because we had to leave our phone on the bank and the hog on the other bank but you can see the dogs on the other side and some swimming the river. This was before the catch. The hog was about 150lbs with pretty good teeth.

I carry an inflatable life vest fanny pack every hunt for this reason. If I need it I can just pull the cord and stay afloat. I had a scare with a bulldog crossing a creek in February and it wont happen again.

Yea I made that mistake once myself in a different body of water. If I hunt close to the river I carry a flotation device. Sounds like you boys had plenty of excitement though.
