Had some hunters down for the weekend. To be honest I'm worn out. Tracked a fallow, fallow doe, and three bucks!!!  Two bucks were dead but they are so fat that they are not bleeding much. If we don't find blood guides back out and call in the dogs.

The third buck was on does all morning and when he offered a shot the hunter took it!  The guide videoing was adjusting the camera at the shot so he was unsure where he hit the buck. After assessing the shot and finding some blood and hair I dropped Possum and Hank on the track. Sadie is in heat so she is out of commission for about the month of December!!!  After struggling to pick up the line Hank worked it out and Possum was right with him. I could see them on the garmin GPS that they were working an area. I heard crashing and possum went to yipping!  They chased this buck for about 200 yards until he stopped to fight. By the time I reached the bay the buck was lying down and caught!  I snuck in and finished him off. He taped out at 175 2/8. I was trying to video but as I was about to shoot I hit the off button on my I phone. I may need to get me a go pro! Not the best video but you get the picture. If u look close at the en of the video you can see the buck bedded up.

Possum

Snapped this picture from the end of the video right before I took the shot.

Pretty nice deer.

I'd have to say, if you finished my buck for me, I don't think I could mount it, it'd be like false advertisement  Cheesy. Sounds like the blood dogs are really making it happen though.

Rule #1 I put the dogs down only I shoot over them. If they are not good with that they are more than welcomed to call someone else. I have no hard feelings if they elect the latter. Got too much time invested in these dogs.

I definitely understand that. There's not to many people I trust with my dogs, much less shooting over them.

Great dog work Jerry, the high temps and lush vegetation have got to be tough on you and the dogs this year. Keep after em!

Jerry can these people just not shoot worth a hoot or what? That's a lot of crippled game to be hunting with a firearm....just my opinion.

Not speaking for Jerry but my personal experience with big money hunters and corporate hunts combined is that they think that big money gun and scope and the size of their pay check determines their shooting ability.  I have seen more "skilled" shooters miss or wound deer just because they would not take the time to shoot a few rounds before going to the blind to make sure they are on. Or because they get excited and feel the presure to perform while being watched.  I saw a grown business owner pack his things and leave deer camp one time because he had wounded a spike and was so embarrased he didnt want to stick around.  Strange personalities and skill levels are brought forth when the time comes to shoot some of these big money deer.

Matt is spot on. And sometimes the shot is just off for what ever reason.

Matt is on target, but It's situational, the fallow was shot by a female shooting a bow. She is a great shot and It looked like a good shot, mostly liver.  The two other bucks were good hits just that they are so fat right now we didn't get but a few drops at the start. Both deer were dead, but guides know if they don't find good blood at the start just back off and call dogs.  Better to find dead within 50 yards than push them if they are alive. The last one i can't tell you, guy is a good shot but I guess looking at that buck for 30 minutes got the best of him when he finally offered a shot. When I get the text, "need dogs" ... I'm there!!!

Well Matt answered my question just as I figured it was,....too much money and too little experience/sense. That's why I would never make it as a hunting guide,....lol

I guess that it must only be on TV that the deer always seem to fall within sight of the hunter....funny how that works ain't it? I know that we all miss....sometime or another, but there's no reason not to be familiar and competent with your weapon of choice.

I'm always amazed at the number of gun hunters with 'magnumitis'....thinking that you need a really large caliber firearm to kill a deer or hog. Makes little sense to me but makes the gun makers happy I reckon. Glad you have a niche to fill there Jerry....good dog work.

At least they do that and call you immediatly. I can't stand when they shoot an animal see decent blood and track it for 400 yds. The blood trail dies out and they still continue searching for 2 or 3 more hours then decide to call in for the dogs! As if it is hard enough for a dog and if the dog comes out dry they think the dog ain't worth a crap?
