well today, I did my first solo cross country flt from killeen, to hearne, up to Waco and back to Killeen. I kinda forgot to cross ck my heading thingy with my mag compass and got LOST. thank goodness for atc. I was only bout 50deg off to the west. I was wondering why ground images didn't look right, it kinda helps to fly the correct heading for the ck points on my map to be where they r suppose to be along my route of travel. it coulda got real chitty real fast if I had not have topped on fuel and flew way to far off course before asking for help. I was worried about my x-wind landings, since its been weeks since iv had to land with a x-wind, but hey, I walked away from each landing, and the acft was flyable for the nxt student to tear it up  Grin
this whole flying thing aint as easy I thought I was. a lot of computing and calculating, watching altitude, watchin for other acft flying around, and not balling the acft up in a farmers field or on the runway. its all fun, but dang, its a head ache. im glad im already going bald, it makes it harder to pull my hair out while stress out.  Grin i'll post some pics from my flt later on

That's pretty neat Charles. I always thought it'd be pretty cool to get a license and tool around from time to time.

Never been in a plane but a couple times. Those times were in a crop duster. That is a blast. Always thought flying for a living would be nice but I'm sure the stress is unreal.

Yea, i thought bout doin the crap dusting thing, it looks kick a$$, but once i realized how much the wind really affects them smaller planes n i dont like roller coaster aerobatics, im just gonna hav to get my commercial rotary wing n spray with a helo. Them air tractors they use for dusting is a bad mach, but to much yankin n bankin for my likings.
We hav to practice stalls, not a big deal now, untill my instructor put the acft in a spiraling spin n i swear we were gonna crash. I was screamin like lil school girl aftr lil johnny put a frog down her shirt. I wish i woulda had a go pro cam. I woulda posted that embarassing experience, just to remind to nvr put the acft in a stall n not recover it in time.  Grin

We have had some really good Ag pilots here over the years. When turbines first started showing up around here and these guys got out the old round engines it was on. Way more power more speed better handling. Lord they thought they were in jet fighters again. Make a pass with tires 20ft off the ground pull straight up stall slide right or left and come In hammering. I would say half the pilots in this area flew Air Force jets. Some of the old timers flew mustangs. I was told the worst part is the air pockets and the temp differences and the effects.

Thats true. The temp inversion layer between 2000 n 1500 feet is a mofo. Iv gained an indicated 500' in a matter of sec n then lost it in the same time. Between updrafts n down drafts, at slow speeds n low alt, add to it a 10kt cross wind n it makes for a slitely awkward landing. Heck the instr n i went up 1 day with a 60kt constant wind, pulled pwr just enuf to start hovering n then watched the gps gnd spd start showing a postitice rev spd n then went into sideways flt. We turned a fixed ming into a dang helo for a few min. It was fun n its getn more fun the better i get, but aint no way in hell im gonna crop dust w/o crapin my pants first. They guy that flys an air tractor sprayer does pertty kick a$$ manuvers, flyin low, fast n like u said, goes near vertical n does a rtt (return to target). I think i woulda dun blown my dinner from the nite before outa both ends  Grin
