I have a 1.5 yr old catahoula...i've had him for a few months...as far as i know he has never had anything for heart
worms... i gave him .6 cc's of ivamec 2 days ago.... today he started coughing just after running around in the yard for a minute.
What do y'all think? Could this have anything to do with the ivomec..... or maybe just a kennel cough???

Had a dog doing the same thing and I thought "kennel cough". Then someone on here told me they had a dog with a wooden doghouse get a splinter in its throat. So I checked and I'll be dang, she had pulled a small branch up to her kennel and I could tell it had been chewed. Upon further investigation I found a long slither but thin hung in her throat, not far enough to pass but far enough that she couldn't cough it up. Worth a shot.

Thanks for the reply....i will check for that but.... he is not in a wooden kennel.... he stays out in the yard a lot of the time and on a chain..... i don't know....... he's the oldest dog i have right now and is doing real good in the woods. We bayed and caught 2 big barr hogs last weekend.... he was right there in on both of them... doing real good.... i hope it's nothing major. I was scared i would kill him by giving him the ivomec....

You should always do a heartworm test before giving anything for heartworms.

Years ago we had a Pit that we gave a shot of Ivmec to and it killed him, a slow horrible death because he was very hot with heart worms.  So you might want to take him to the vet.  An ounce of prevention is well worth the trouble and pain of having a dog go down.

Could just be conjestion in his lungs. I Have been treating one of my dogs for the past week with anibiotics due to conjested lungs. Vet said could be the weather/allergies. Take him to the vet.

I know that a symptom of Coccidioidomycosis (aka. Valley Fever) is a respiratory caugh and pneumonia / flu like symptoms.

After a long drought and high temperatures followed by excessive rain / moisture is the perfect environment for Cocci / Valley Fever spores…

This is just my $0.02 (two cents)… after spending MUCH, MUCH more than $0.02 (two cents) on one of my dogs with this…

Ivermectin can cause irritation to the throat and will produce a cough that sounds just like Kennel Cough. If it goes away in a couple of days, I would say your dog had an issue with the Ivermectin. When I dose Ivomec, I draw up the desired amount of drug and then fill the rest of the syringe with flat Dr Pepper. The syrup in the DP helps to coat the throat as it goes down and you shouldn't have issues with the Ivermectin cough afterward.

Cheers
