Help! we only have a few dewberries and the birds always get them. My wife spots dewberry flowers everywhere we drive and drives me crazy! Does someone have lots of dewberries on their land she can pick? Her and dewberries are like me and hogs we both need a place to get em. I am allowed to go hog hunting as long as she can pick dewberries. HELP!

Our dewberries are still just in the flower stage. Last year I worked hard and got about an acre and a half of big sweet Brazos dewberries but this year the freezes and flooded property seemed to have thwarted my berry patch. I don't know where your from but when I was a kid the sweetest dewberry patch on the planet was at the boat ramp at Cazalots Cove on Toledo bend Louisiana side. Good luck! Does she make preserves?

I never picked them. But I keep hearing how you have to do it right or they bust. My wife used to pick them as a child. She keeps telling me means the berries are coming and she needs to find somewhere with enough to pick. The birds always wipe us out.

I see my wife was right. She said nobody would give up their dewberries. Are they that good? When I was a kid I ate what I shot I guess I should have been pick'n berries. I guess I need a Dewberry dog and head out at night. Oh it is on now you dewberry hogs! If you let me know where they are we will leave some, but if you hold out you will wake up one morning to no dewberries left. Speak now or I have no idea where your berries went.

Clearly, you either have never picked dewberries or this post is in jest.  They will be everywhere in a few weeks.  Along side many roads, along side most railroad tracks, in most open fields, etc.  They aren't a cultivated crop  ...  they just grow wild anywhere that isn't mowed too heavily.  I've never had a problem finding a place to stop and pick them.

I am being a bit silly. My wife is driving me crazy showing me the dewberry flowers. Then I say that there must be hogs in there too. So I hope someone else can get a little chuckle when they read this.

The one time of the year I really hate hogs is when I feel like they are eating MY dewberries (blackberries?). Chris also hates this time of year because I am always bailing off the Mule to get into the berry patches. I can't get full on berries and I could eat them till I pop. This year, I would like to pick more than I can eat so I can make some jelly. Anyone have a good Mandi Proof jelly recipe? I tried apple cinnamon jelly and it didn't set up right.

Cheers

Should be a good year for dewberries.  Frost did'nt get the flowers and plenty of moisture in the ground
