Well I have been on the road for a little over two months and have been going through witdrawls not being able to run my dogs on some pigs, and not to mention the kids have really been asking everytime I call home, " When you coming home, we are ready to stab some pigs!" I finally left Indian country and headed back down to the bayou state for a little over a week vacation. I wasnt home 14 hours and I caught this BIG BOY slipping across an old bean field, of course I was deer hunting and ended up dropping him right in his tracks with a well placed shot in the neck with a .270 at 215 yds. He went about 250lbs and was an excellent start to my holidays. After I showed up at the house with that one the kids looked as if they were going to cry, so the next afternoon we loaded up my overweight mutts who havent left the pen in over two months and hit the woods. We hunted for a while but the dogs still knew what a hog was and each of the boys got to use their catchdogs and stick their own hogs. The best part was that ended up split up from my partner and alone with the two boys and my buddys two boys with no flashlight, but the moon was full and we got the job done. I was so proud of all of them because they followed me through the woods and never showed or acted as if they were scared. Most grown men wont go in the woods without a flashlight.(Not the smartest thing in the world to do, but at least I didnt forget to pack their toothbrushes to go to the camp!:) As my vacation was winding down they asked if I could take them on one more hunt before I headed back north and so we made a second hunt with the dogs. Once again the dogs were slow, but the pulled three out of their hat and the boys little friend got his first hog too. Two dog hunts and one rifle hunt yielded 6 hogs and one little pig, but I should have stacked a bunch more. Cant wait till I can take some real time off and get those dogs back into shape. Hope everyone had a Merry Xmas and a Happy New Years! See some of yall in the woods soon. Joey Young P.S. The best part of this hunt was definitely the children. Those two hunts are definitely two of my favorite hunts of all time!

Joey, I'm a little slow to catch on. Are you related to those nice folks at BAYED SOLID? I hope those boys enjoy that as much as mine did. He's 30 now and we still hunt all we can together.

Where did that white dog with the brindle patch behind her eye come from? She looks like a pup I raised
I just realized she is one of my pups, I went back and found where you had contacted me about her last year....How is she doing for you? Is she catching? I hope you like her. If you ever want to let her go please let me know. Thanks Paul

Thanks guys, and yall are right about the memories and just the enjoyment I get out of hunting with youngsters. I am a very focused on the hunt and strive to make my dogs give a 110% to insure success in the woods. Being that way takes the fun out of it sometimes, but then again if you arent making the dogs work and putting forth the necessary effort to make the dogs and yourself be successful then you dont get to enjoy catching a lot of hogs. However, when the children are there I just really relax and let the dogs do what they have been trained to do and I focus on teaching the kids about the outdoors and watching them enjoy themselves. Just a GREAT FEELING of SERENITY is the best way for me to describe it.
CajunJag,
I will be seeing you soon. I am going to try and make that 3 Rivers hunt this year. As for old Delilah, she came back home last summer, and is working as a puppy trainer and a jump dog when the younger dogs cant get a track worked out. Definitely one of the coldest nosed curs that I have ever seen and the smarts and heart to go with it. When it warms up I hope to bring her to KS to help get some of her Grand babies up and going for the first hog dog pack in this area. One of our Members on this forum, RGO, is a super nice fella and a very avid outdoorsman and he got three pups from me and I am going to help him anyway I can to get his pack going.
Graydog,
I dont believe that I am related to those Young's on that side of the River, at least not closely for sure. However, if they came out of the Ozarks then there is a good chance we are related somewhere down the line. I have really ever gotten a chance to visit with them. As for the boys enjoying it, now I have to get a crew cab Ranger so they can go with me. That is all that they talk about, which is good because they have traded those dang joystick controlers for that XBOX for shovels and leashes to clean the kennels and help feed dogs with their mother while I am at work. They also practice obedience with their catchdogs every other week. That is amazing to see kids do that in this day and age.
Paul,
That is River, the pup I got from that ol boy Tim. She is doing great now. She started out slow, but in my limited expierience with dogos, they tend to mature slower and not turn on until 18 months of age. She will bring a baby pig back to you without a mark on it and hold a big hog until you get your hands on it and either tied or killed then if you dont leash her up fast she will roll over with the curs and hunt with them until another catch or you can cut her off. That is the youngest boys catchdog and she doesnt drag him through the woods or anything like that and he is small enough to actually ride her if he wanted. I am going to cross either my Jeep blood Pit or my AB Blaze over her next time she comes in heat and see how that turns out. If you would like a pup let me know.
Thanks again guys and have a great weekend!
Joey Young

Remember she is 1/2 AB 1/2 DOGO, she was catchin good when she was 4 mths old but then she started gettin passed back and forth until you got her. Im Glad you ended up with her, she has someone that will take care of her now. Her brothers weigh 130 pounds and will never tighten the leash on you even when you are going to a bay. Keep in touch. It is common courtesy to not hunt during deer season because even if it doesn't bother the deer the deer hunters will blame us period! Hogs will almost always end up on deer hunters properties and when they see pics on camera and tracks it makes us all look bad. I have been guilty of it in the past, but I choose to respect the other hunters and not become their excuse. Wasn't trying to air any laundry, just giving you a heads up because I know that you are a ethical and responsible hunter that doesn't want to leave a bad taste in landowners mouth. Afterall we all represent each other when we hit the woods.
Joey
Deer season is still going on . Last full moon was December 21st Which is Middle of Deer season and only 2 weeks after you made this quote on my thread . Oh and Im not trying to air any dirty laundry but just making a point ! !
