Just wondering what are some of yalls methods of marking yalls barrs or just hogs in general. I usually dock the tail on a barr. Do yall do anything with the ears? I was just sitting back wondering. Thanks for any advise.

i do the tails an ear , i cut the whole tip off on one ear so its rounded looking so you can tell it wasnt bit off

Thanks for the replies. Yea I usually dock the tails on the bars but I wasnt sure how everybody notched the ears. Trying to get a honey hole started and want to know if we catch one that we have turned loose. Have yall ever tagged one with a cow tag?

I've heard of a hunting club down south using zip ties in the ear. they use a different color each month and keep a record so the gun hunters can tell which are ready to harvest....

mark the ears leave the tails on them big hogs that are setting down a tail makes a good spot to grab ahild of. Also on the ears cut knotch in the ears and sometimes split ear and cut bottom quarter off

When you Barr them cutting there tails makes them grow better donno why , I didn't believe it but my family used to raise hogs an my grandpa told me cut the tails we cut 5 an left the tails they were out of same litter the 5 with tails were 25 or more pounds lighter when we sold them

I don't know for an absolute fact but I believe cutting tails on pigs is done on pig farms because it cuases the tails to curl better and this is desired because in close quarters they bite each others tails to gain acsess to feed and out of habit. A hog with a long tail will constantly be picked on and wont gain weight as well. Or so I've been told  |

Around my place when I cut one I'm not going to tie and sell, I cut them deep, wide, and continuously right behind the shoulder. It's funny though, they don't grow much after that. |

Double under bit on the ear so it looks like an "M" when hes looking at you. And just cut the tip off the tail so I still have a handle to grab on to when he gets bigger.

We dont kill a lot around here. Just really relocate them cause we dont have a lot of farm land and we try to make honey holes. A whole lot of people hunt around my place so we like to get some hogs started where we can catch them later.lol
