Today marks the 70th day this summer with temperatures at or above the 100 degree mark in central Texas.  With the ten day forecast shownig more of the same we are looking at having 85-90 days of 100+ degree days this year.  Pretty hard to believe really with the fact that we have had around 3-4" of rain in the past 8 months.  Kinda like put a quarter tank in your car and expecting it to keep running for a 1000 miles.  The trees and plants and wildlife for that matter are looking tired.  Everyday is one day closer to rain, or so I have been telling myself since January haha

Since they have been keeping weather records in Texas we have never seen anything like this.  Id like to be able to say this is on the low end of things.  I think we will easily break the 85 day mark from what I have seen which is crazy from May 15 to Sept 15 is roughly 120 days and we are looking at having around 90 or more days in there above 100 degrees.  I can remeber just a few years ago we had on week where it got to 100 a few days and that was it and we had plenty of rain the whole time.  This is uncharted territory, its kinda like southern california moved to texas

it never gets that bad in southern california.... well unless you count the desert out there... but the part where people actually live it doesn't get that bad mainly because of how close the COLD pacific ocean is.

when I was stationed out in Tucson Arizona it didn't even come to be as hot as it is in Texas right now... mainly because we would have our daily "Monsoon" rains that helped everything stay a little cooler

Matt....all you need to do is rent some heavy equipment to excavate a pond.  It WILL bring rain!  Two weeks ago I rented a trackhoe to dredge my pond and dig it a little deeper since it hasn't been this dry since I dug it 5 years ago.  It had not rained in months.  The day I rented it, it rained about an inch.  The next day it rained about .5 inches and it proceeded to rain until they came and got it!  LOL!  Grin  I wasn't complaining, it soaked in so fast it didn't even knock the dust down.  I think we got a total of 2 1/2 inches all together and it sure greened things up quick.

The water in the pictures is the water table, not runoff from the rain.

Houston broke the record that was set in 1980. It was broken day before Yesterday and we should have 3 or 4 more days triple digit temps so we should have this record broken by at least 5 days.

Also breaking records for drought conditions and a few others...
