Finaly got on one

I'm just know getting into running hogs, I've been on this site for a lil while now.Mostly asking stupid questions and reading all you guy's post. I've been working my dogs in a baypen at the house and trying to hunt them when I can,but I keep coming up dry. I was just fixing to get rid of the dogs I had and start over untill the other morning. My buddy talked me into going with him last Sat. at a place we had went to before and got nothing, but this time the dogs actualy struck! It kinda got me off guard, they wound up in a hay medow full of head high johnson grass so thick you almost had to swim through it, and bayed. The only problem was the hog kept slapping the dogs off and they would loose him in the grass he eventualy broke and ran through the field and we wound up loseing him , but the point is that our junkie dogs that I was giving up on actually came through and bayed one.When we loaded up and headed home I felt like an old pro, my junk dogs had just bayed there first hog. And let me tell ya, I just thought I was hooked before. Well, anyway just figured I get on here and update my progress for anybody who would care to read.

That's how it all starts.  Try to do a little more research on the properties your hunting before you go.  The key is the keep your dogs on hogs.  Just cause your loading dogs up to go find hogs doesn't mean your going to unless you have the right places and you put in the time knowing that there there when you do run them.  That's also makes a dog for you.   Keep it up but try not to run to many of them!

keep it up thats how you catchem, if you get permission you could always put some treats out for the suckers to stick around so you can catch em better next time

I still remember the first time my dogs got on a hog, I was shaking from excitement and grinning from ear to ear, I had a guest with me so I acted like i knew what I was doing. Keep it up and post some pics of your first hog

oh yea and you want advice from someone who knows? dont sell out and dont give it up, ive been 2 years in the hole and it sucks and i am just now gettin my feet settled to start again

and dont get discouraged on a dry run, its the time you get to spend with your dogs and let them work thats the enjoyable part

Sounds like all you needed was a catch dog to seal the deal with that hog, hang in there every one of us had to start somewhere

Well good for you newbie.....or should I say good for your dogs.  Welcome to the ranks of the 'eat up with it hog doggers'........glad to have you. Before you know it you'll be posting pics and stories of all your hunts on here and making some other newbie jealous.
