I came home yesterday to find one of my Feist dogs in the kennel with my 1/2 parker X 1/2 cat gyp who is in heat. He climbed out of the stock trailer where I had him and dug into the pen where she is which had a cattle panel floor in it. I can't decide whether to let her have the puppies, spay her, or throw her in with a good cur dog and hope he covers her enough to get a majority of cur pups. She hasn't been hunted much but is out of some sure enough good blood, very quick on a track and holds her own with my strike dogs. The feist has found a couple on his own and is pretty good in the bay pen.
I hate to spay a good young gyp that has a lot of potential, but I hate to have her out until after the first of the year when she is already behind for her age (14 mo.) due to lack of hunting.
What would ya'll do?

Climbed out of the trailer and dug up through a cattle panel to get in her pen! Heck i'd keep em' they oughta have plenty of drive and determination.DANG  |

Cull the pups when they hit the ground... prove both dogs.... breed either one, if they deserve it, later down the road...
Sound advice sir, how long would it take her to dry up, or would her milk not come in fully if the above scenario were to take place? |

get to the vet and get the shot that prevents conception it will usually bring them back in heat i think youve got 72 hours to do it

Vet route worth trying... but if it's too late, she won't bag up if you take care of them right off. Back to hunting shape in month.

I might have to keep her somewhere other than the house until then. I just had an unplanned litter from a gyp that I bought that turned out to be bred. My wife found the puppies while she was still having them, so to prevent me from becoming a cold blooded killer in the eyes of the family, I still have most of them.  |

idk about culling some thing you dont know is a cull,kinda harsh and believe me i dont give a hoot but man give them away to some young hunters 4 free and see what happens.

Go to the local vet and get a missed mating shot it will cause her to slip whatever she had in her but will make her stay in heat 2 extra weeks

I have a friend who is a good vet. I may give him a call and see what tricks he has up his sleeve, and if that doesn't work go to plan b, which is what Noah said. I really hate to spay her until I see what kind of dog she will be. She has been on less than 10 hogs so I'm not sure if she will make the cut to reproduce. While I think the pups from that cross would be some busy, energetic, baying fools, there are way too many so so dogs out there. I don't need to add any more than I already have. There are too many breeds and unknown blood lines in the mix to know what kind of pups they would be. |

go to the vet an get some lutalace works wonders ive had to use it a couple times if u catch it early enough it works if not yoll still have pups and there wont be a thing wrong with em if it works shell come back into heat cause what it does is make em have a heat cycle again which aborts the pups

About 6 months ago my cat/plott had 16 pups that were culled as they hit the ground and she still bagged up bad. Took 1 week for her bag to slack up and another week before there was little to no milk left. I like to wait 3 weeks after weining to hunt a gyp, beware of milk fever also when doing this.

Be cautious about the shot, it can cause complucations such as sterility and even death.
We had a bull dog we gave to family as a pet, they let her get bred and had the shot administered....she wound up getting sick and had to be put down.
I would hunt her until she starts showing, let her have them and get her right back out there after the pups are gone. Her milk is goung to come in but should absorb relatively quick if they never have the chance to nurse and her body isnt triggered to produce more.

Hunt her until she can't keep up then put her up and let her have the pups. Let her nurse them for a couple of.weeks and wean them off of her early. Give them to some young guys that are just getting started and sit back and see what happens. I don't know how the dog hunts now but I have seen some dogs that are totally different after having a litter of pups, it seems to help them get a little more serious about things. Sometimes pups need to be culled as they are born but it don't sound like this is one of those situations. Other than not being proven are there any major issues with the parents such as man aggression or extreme dog aggression? Do the parents have any negative health issues that you would not passed on to pups? If the answer is no, then why cull them and not give them at least a half a$$ chance to be something for someone else? It doesn't sound like this breeding was due to any type of negligence on your part so it must be something that was meant to be. Lol

Give a 1/4 mg per kg of body weight of ludalice dont remember correct spelling. do this morning and night for five days. It has to be given between 24 to 45 days of pregnancy . It usually does the trick. I got that dosage from a friend of DVM Kent Carter I think is his name i believe he used too or still does teach at A&M. Or go get the one time Estrogen shot I think it has to be given between the 10 and 12th day of pregnancy. I would definitely get her exact weight. To get her to abort. If you give too much ludalice I know you can kill a dog.

If your going to cull the pups let them nurse some first , if not you have a good chance of messing up hormones.
I gave my gyp a shot for $28 at the vet, if you wait more than a day the shot they give is around $100 and its basicaly a morning after pill that worked great for my gyp
