Ok, got it. Never hunted a competition but was thinking about doing a couple in '13. Can't say I like the "no Barr" rule. Doesn't really make sense to me. Seems people may be worried about....cheating? Maybe. I don't know. Only thing I can think of. Just give polygraph.

Good luck. Its hard to fight ignorance on these topics. Its like when I argued about a bay n shoot rule. None of the people making the rules acually bayed and shot. Huh?

cward and all hunters ,have ya'll found that when ya catch and barr a boar when with a group ,mainly sows and pigs that they tend ta stay with sows and pigs verses catchyn a boar by hisself and barrin that he's more apt ta be caught by hisself? cant see why if anyones havin a hunt why they would exclude barrs, its still huntin

Don't they gain weight once they've been cut?  I know a lot of competitions pick a winner based off the weight of boar. I could be wrong, just thought I'd throw it out there.

Exactly.   I personally don't care either way but I think its to keep it "fair" if ya will. A lot of people don't have long term big hunting spots where they can or are allowed to release a barr with the hopes of catching it later. Either way you still have to catch him again at the right time.

Id have to say they gain more fat but I couldnt say that a barr gets heavier at a faster rate than a boar. Seems about the same to me.
Ive seen some fat.....fat barrs caught that were eating out of protein feeders but I have seen more fat...fat boars caught doing the same.

I see both sides, but if I got caught cutting and releasing a hog their is no doubt the landowners I hunt for would not welcome me back....

There are two reason people want barrs removed from contests.

-The idea that you should ban hogs that have been cut because they gain weight faster.
There are tons of things that make hogs gain weight faster than others. Statistically, I guarantee more contests are won with hogs near feed lots and grain field. So to remove barrs isn't really leveling the playing field. It all comes down to the food source that you are hunting near. More food... bigger hogs... cut or not. Plain and simple.

-Trying to prevent people from "cultivating their hunting spots".
Againt there are many ways to do this. They can do that by just transporting more big boars or big hogs in general to the spot. By removing barrs you did not solve the problem.

The issue that is trying to be prevented could be handled with a well written rule and polygraph. A flat ban on Barrs will not solve any thing. You have more to lose than gain.

Eric,
Well said and I feel that TDHA is trying to make it fair for every one.

That's why you can't bring a motorbike to a bike race.

It'll work out and Hope we can feed some needy people and show support for the Cause.

Kevin a polygraph can be cheated also. There are folks who know how to lie on them and pass.

lol i know that's right that's why they are not admisable in court . any ol horse trader or dog jockey can beat a plolygraph not to mention used car salesmen  lol . i have killed a bunch of barr hogs and it is true they are just as hard to catch but don't run near as far or fast as boars due to the amount of pure lard and gut fat they are carrying . but i agree folks with big leases with feeders slinging year round would have the advantage in a hunt after cutting and releasing a bunch of barrs on their lease to be caught at a later date and soley for competition time  . my thoughts are if you don't like the rules find a differant comp to hunt in . can't please everybody .

Kevin nope just been at work LOL. I may be wrong but in years past was it not just the team capt. that was tested? It would cost too much to test the whole team(s).
