Older man I've known for years been raising the same dogs as long as I've known him. I bought a couple dogs from him here the last couple weeks and they've done bout exactly what he said. Well he had one more for sell supposed to be sure nuff HOG DOG. Picked him up yesterday and carried him hunting this mornin. And he got out to shame by a dog the old man told me was young and wouldn't do much

Picked him up yesterday and carried him huntin this morning and you're already saying that you got burned? Sounds like you should give the dog a fair chance first and give the old man a fair chance as well before you go posting on the internet you got burned.

Dude, i agree, ,, give the dog a chance to get to know ya, and your pack. He's still trying to figure out which end is up after getting moved out to a totally different environment. I bet it wont be long and he'll be a lot closer to what the old fella told he was

Look at it this way - you might have gotten a great deal on a young dog. My buddy traded for a "started" dog that's striking dogs left and right within a month of owning him.

Supposed to be a "finished" dog. For 1000 dollars I seen hogs and he didn't go find them

"Finished" is a lose term these days it seems like. But like these men was saying, give him a chance. The dog could have been worried about other things than hunting seriously cause he isn't comfortable yet. Then he could have been having an "off" day. Maybe he is wind dog and the wind wasn't right. Any number of things could have lined up to make the dog not find the hogs. Before you seriously cast judgment on a dog spend some time with the dog and learn him while he is learning you. Now some dogs can hunt for anybody, anytime, anywhere. But some of the best dogs I ever seen were one man dogs. And right now, maybe to that dog, you ain't the man.

When I called the man about it he asked me if I had anything besides a regular collar on the dog I told him a tracking collar and he told me to hunt him without the tracking collar and he's supposed to be long range

You really never know how a dog will respond to a new owner. But a dog that has been on a lot of hogs and is a decent dog shouldn't change his actions when in hogs. But you never know till you can see for your self and make a good educated decision

I have seen coon dogs, hog dogs and cow dogs that have had too much E collar and would not hunt or work with any kind of collar with a receiver on it. The old Cotton dog of Ben Jordans would trail a cow for miles and stay until you found him but would not hunt or work with a tracking collar on.

Put a tracking collar on him thro him on the chain or kennel for two weeks then take him out if wants to hunt for you he will if not take him back.

I run a alpha so I got to thinkin maybe the prongs in his neck had him gun shy but run a dc 30 on him this mornin and no difference. So idk

Yea that's what I was thinking. I mean it's partly my fault apparently you can't trust anyone. But it never crossed my mind that someone I've known for 8+ years that has been raising dogs as long as I've known him would sell me some bull number 2. But some dogs will only hunt for certain people and that may be the case here. Just wasn't impressed with the dog at all

Kind of reminds me of a male dog I tried yrs ago on a trial...I new the guy and somewhat trusted him so I took the dog out and put him on hogs that first morning.. he went out and wouldn't even bay hogs I was lookin at that we actually walked up on. Dog stayed at my feet and he was the only dog I brought out that morning.. Dog was 4 yrs old at the time and had a couple of scars on him, so I didn't understand it at all.. Well ,, I brought him back and told the feller so no hard feelings and I went on my way.. About 1 month later,, I heard of a another guy had bought the dog and that feller knew one of my buddies so I asked him how the dog is working for him.... Man,,, that dog ended up catchin tons of hogs for that guy,, don't know why he didn't hunt for me,,, never had a dog do that to me but it happened that time.. one thing I have learned is all dogs are different and they have their own personalities..
