my opinion for what its worth is that you shouldnt have even hunted the dog yet. some dogs hunt for the human and some hunt for themselves. i think this one hunts for his master and you aint it yet. and did you discuss returning the dog if he didnt suit you prior to buyin it. hope it all works out for the buyer, seller and the dog.

I do know that some Mt curs hunt for the master...depending on how you handle the dog will also determine how long it will take for the dog to decide when he will hunt for you...
If you know for sure that the dog is a good hunting dog then be patient and take the dog for walks, rides and give him treats...the sooner he will trust you the sooner he will hunt for you...

I bought a male from my uncle one time that I had hunted with on numerous occasions and knew very well what he was capable of, done seen him in action a bunch, caught a few hogs with him after I bought him but he wasn't doing what I thought he should, finally about a few months later after I had he really started to blossom, now I know when you buy something it's supposed to do it just as good when you buy it, but some dogs are like humans, some men can take a new job and got right to work, others have to adjust to their new surroundings and co workers for a little bit.

I know one thing for sure if you were friends with the old dog man before you dang sure won't be now if he finds out that you're saying he burned you on a dog before you went back to him and discussed what to do to make it right.

Ive talked to boarboy about this quite a bit. While I agree with ya'll that the ol man might not be too happy I will say this.
1) he hasn't mentioned that mans name on here, hell he hasn't even told me the mans name on the phone or via text for that matter, id imagine 90+% of the folks on here don't even know boarboys real name much less have a clue who he is speaking about so I don't believe that it is too big a concern.....yes ya'll do have a valid point though, I can see where the old man would be upset IF he saw this no doubt.
2) a real deal get it done type hog dog SHOULD hunt for anyone that drops him, just my opinion ( I know that there are certain dogs that just flat out wont hunt for anyone other than their owner and that's fine and dandy, not arguing that point at all.......however to me that is NOT a trait I would want in a dog personally...... he can be the best damn hog dog in the country for 1 man but if he wont hunt for anyone else then he really ain't worth a plug nickel to anyone other than the original owner which ain't a problem UNTIL that owner sells him)
3) When I was told that the man told boarboy that he was a sure enough go get em type hog dog THEN turned around and told boarboy that if he was hunting the dog with a cut collar or tracking collar that he needed to take em off the dog that honestly threw a red flag to me........ UNLESS the man hunted this dog 1 out every time he went and the dog produced hogs for him how could he possibly know if the dog was worth a dang without running any type of tracking system on it ...........i'm honestly wondering if this isn't the case with the dog that boarboy bought where the dog is great when he is hunted with another dog but for one reason or another wont get gone when he is by himself.......
I honestly don't know the deal with this dog and all of the above is simply my take on the subject based off what I have spoken to boarboy about regarding this dog. He has told me more than once that the man has never steered him or anyone he knows wrong with a dog in the past so I really don't believe that the old man was trying to get over on him but something just doesn't add up. In this day and age who in their right mind would hunt a dog without a tracking collar especially when they just spent 1000$ on that dog.......Just a strange situation all the way around.

well all I can say is that someone ruined that dog with a shock collar...the old man needs to take boarboy and the dog on a hunt and that dog should hunt...
good dogs don't have bad days...I stand by that statement...

Thank you mr Corbell!! Personally my buddies and I barrow each other's dogs on occasion they always hunt the same. I've heard of dogs only hunting for one or two people and I know an old boy that has a dog like that. But I did buy the gyp that the dog being discussed was hunted with 99 percent of the time I bought her about a month ago. The second time I hunted the male I dropped him and her out of the truck and got back in my truck. Nothing changed. If you put a 1000 dollar dog in fresh hog tracks he better go find a hog. Dog literally didn't even have to hunt all he had to do was hit the ground the track was right there and he didn't take it

Whats finished to the old man may not be considered finished to you. I do believe if youve bought numerous dogs from him n they are what he says, then he should have no reason n shooting u a line of crap on the 3rd or 4th one. Id give it some time too. Goodluck

A dog that's hunts for a new owner right off the bat is the exception not the rule. Give the dog some time to adjust you will probably be pleasantly surprised at the result

Both first day I hunted him with a tt15 for my alpha and with my good gyp. She was bayed 20 minutes out of the truck. He did go to the bay wasn't in a hurry though. Second day I hunted him with a dc 30 and the gyp he supposedly always hunted with. Nothing changed so after a little while I took the collar off and not much difference

a sure way to find out if the dog is a good hog dog but a one man dog is to take the old man along and let him cast the dog out...if he is a hog dog he will get out and hunt and find a hog if one is to be found...
if that is the case you will eventually have him hunting just as good...just treat the dog right and make friends with him first...
good dogs don't have bad days...maybe some days better than others...

As usual Mr. Reuben, we are on the same page sir. I agree with you and Justin. But I got an old gyp here that's probably 11. I can take her or my dad and bay hogs all day long with her. Another man that she don't know even be on the hunt with you she will make you want to kill her. She goes a couple times with that person she will go find her a hog. I got one of the black dogs off Mike and anyone can take her hunting but not just anyone can catch her. Some dogs are goofy. Some dogs won't hunt for some people. Got a yellow male here that I had given away as a pup. They gave him back because they was going to coon dogs. He's found his own hogs and stuff. Now that son of a gun will not hunt for me. Take him and won't do anything. But you saying he was ruined with a shock collar which people don't realize it happens fast. You gotta be smarter then the shock collar. But then again not ever cur dog is silent. Not every hound is open. And not ever dog is a hog dog. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I did get burned. Hunted the dog again same number 2 called the old man and he hung up on me as soon as I mentioned the dog. The dog as done nothing close to what I was told. Now a lot of this is my fault I'm sure because I trusted someone that I thought wouldn't do me wrong because I've known them so long aparently you can't trust anyone when it comes to money. I'm almost positive the dog isn't near as old as I was told. And he does not cast at all but I will say this. I was cruisin some national Forrest roads with him loose in the back of my truck he stood up in the side of my bed like he was winding so I dumped him and he went out 700 yards. Didn't find anything but he did leave

when the dog is winding sometimes what he smells from the back of the truck he will not be able to smell what is in the wind once he hits the ground in some cases...so you figure how the wind is channeling and walk in that direction (into the wind) once the dog gives it up on his first try...chances are he was winding hog...and you can guide him in that direction until he picks up on the scent again...good handling will bring out the best in the dog...
