Birdseye is the only way to go.it's so detailed that you can find the thinnest spots in the thick woods to get to your dog's.The detail is the key for me it takes a lot of straight line bulldozing out of the equation.

So it will only make maps better not worse correct. I need to be able to see roads still. But I'm thinking Birdseye will help me be able to tell what kinda terrain in. Is that correct?

Yep all of the roads are still there but you can see every dim road and trail that aren't named or marked on the standard map. Also you'll know if they're in water or by water ,houses, property lines pastures you get what I'm saying it's a satellite image so you know exactly what's going on.

P.Wilson I just recently got the alpha and the birdseye within the last 6 months before that I was a straight line bulldozer lol but it sure is nice being able to see a trail 20 ft from hell.

I've owned my alpha for 3 years and it works good. But. I definitely rather work smarter than harder if I can. I don't care just to push a path.  But If need arises I will. Lol. But it will shoe more detail and stuff. Im gone get it I reckon. I definitely could use it. Never even seen anyone using it so I will give it a shot I reckon

The Birdseye service is a great tool for a good price. I think I paid $20 for a 2 year subscription. It is particularly helpful if you hunt new places or at night.
-
It is a bit of a process to get the base camp software downloaded and your hunting areas selected. Be sure that you put the map card into your handheld before you download your hunt areas. I didn't do this initially and it caused me to have to go through the process again. If you travel away from your normal area to hunt, Be sure to download the area before you leave. I made these mistakes and hope this helps you learn from my ignorance!
-
If you are willing to spend the time in basecamp, you can log your hunts and do a lot of cool stuff with this service.

PH- You will have to select and download ALL areas that you plan to hunt regardless of where they are located. Check out the link below. Hope you find it helpful.

They both have their perks, I have the topo and my best friend Chris has Birdseye, mine gives names of roads and creeks and stuff Birdseye does not, when we hunt together we use his to know what type of terrain they're in and mine to know the elevation and some of the smaller streams that's kinda hard to see on Birdseye...

Thanks shotgun for the help. I will sure do it if I decide to go that route. I like the stock map ok. But I've heard a few people brag about how Birdseye is better.

Yeah mine came with maps on it. It has elevations on it but it's not a good map it just shows roads and rivers. I need to be able to see terrain my dog is in

i  don't have  birds eye on my garmin but if I did  I would just keep an extra topo map card for the U S and if I went out of area of my birdseye view download load I would slip the topo card in .....I do  just fine with my topo card ,,,,but  my son can  tell  you if the dog is  in someone's yard or in an open field or crossing any old logging roads just more detail than I have with mine ....... and if you hunt with someone that has it  you will find yourself asking where's the dogs  hahahahahaha .....
