Met up with Briley and his buddy Jesse, and Tim. Dropped out at the ranch a dusk. 5 curs on the ground but everything should sit way back and bay so I wasn't to worried about it. Dogs are hunting good as we start walking through the place, get over to a tank where hogs usually hang around and wasn't any fresh sign, but kate wandered off and gave a loop or 2 around 200 and came back to 150 and stood some pigs up. Small group of small hogs scatter and Brileys little spotted gyp singles one out, everything arrives and catches out on 35 lber. Stick it and Kate rolls hard. Sit on a tank dam and wait for her to do something worth walking to. About 25-30 minutes go by.... 1.1 mile and treed. Head to her with dogs on lead. Get about 350 from her off the road and turn to her. Brileys little brindle pup goes to her but His spotted gyp, other brindle pup, and Tims gyp roll right on past em. Me and Briley sneak to Kate and his pup. got close enough to try and leg him while bayed and he broke on us. Check garmin and other 3 dogs are sat down and hammering away at .85 , Kate and the pup bay again and we head to them, hog breaks again so we head to other 3 dogs bayed. Kate and the pup catch up on the way. Get 350 or so from the bay and Kate and pup head to them and everything is screaming. We crawl in there on top of the brush they were under and stood right over the bay and watched Kate get wrecked. Hog tried to back door them and kate looped in front. Everything else hit him in the ass and he smashed kate and sat back up. Ole Briley reached down there with his .44 and put it right on his ears and put an end to him. Assessed the damage and knew kate got hit in the jugular. I carried her out, buddy drove my truck to us, got the bleeding under control and started her fluids and got her to the vet soon as we could(about an hour or so later). Doc kainer is the man and got her fixed up. She came real close to tapping out but she pulled through. Hell of a hunt and all in all it didn't end too terribly bad as kate come home this afternoon. Dogs covered some country and got some hogs caught and you can't ever be mad about that! <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src=" http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid1232.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff373%2FColton_Mear%2FMobile%2520Uploads%2FBABD446B-72A1-4CB3-BFBD-3961C12CF868.mp4&title="> first shoat <a href=" http://s1232.photobucket.com/user/Colton_Mear/media/Mobile%20Uploads/FB31DA18-78B6-4453-BE91-EF20ABF82AAC.jpg.html" target="_blank"><img src=" http://i1232.photobucket.com/albums/ff373/Colton_Mear/Mobile%20Uploads/FB31DA18-78B6-4453-BE91-EF20ABF82AAC.jpg" border="0" alt=" photo FB31DA18-78B6-4453-BE91-EF20ABF82AAC.jpg">[/url] kate rolled out pretty good and got bayed <embed width="600" height="361" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowFullscreen="true" allowNetworking="all" wmode="transparent" src=" http://static.photobucket.com/player.swf" flashvars="file=http%3A%2F%2Fvid1232.photobucket.com%2Falbums%2Fff373%2FColton_Mear%2FIMG_1417.mp4&title="> where I'm standing and where the hog is is where we were and where we shot him from. That's a wild story! Was she wearing a cut collar? Sounds like she got a blessing from up above! That's a big ole boar. How much did he weigh?

No cut collar. Dogs were being real queer the night before and not hunting well so I tried to switch it up a little. Almost paid a big price for it. He was about 220 we guessed. His frame was huge just didn't pack the weight. Long and tall frame, he could have gotten huge as a barr hog.

Me too mike. She's kinda not doing to well right now. And I'm 5 hours away in another state so it's not gonna be a good week for me. See what the vet says but I'm betting she's going back tomorrow. I lose her I'm done

What's wrong with her? Losing dogs is part of what we do, you don't even want to know how many I've lost...

Can't keep food down and isn't acting right. Vet thinks it's the rimadyl so we're taking her off that and getting he some meds to ease her stomach and putting her on rice and chicken feed wise and small portions 3-4 times a day. I know it's part of it but I don't have the room to keep multiple dogs. Kate is literally only dog I own that will hunt sure enough. Got 2 pups that need culling, a pup that will make. And a walker with pups on her

Slim go get some chicken noodle soup much easier and cheaper. That will keep her on track till she feels better. On the dog part Man U in a sport of come and go buddy. I have followed all your post slim and you have had more dogs in the last yr then I have had in ten yrs. not all dogs will make the cut and you shouldn't just get dogs to try out. If you are limited to a number of dogs u shouldn't be breeding dogs as a rule. Because it take a lot of work to find out what a dog will be and that's even guess work till you know for sure that can take 3 or 4 yrs on a single dog. Not saying this to sound harsh just what I have noticed. Here is some food for thought don't worrie bout what this and that will produce worrie bout what you have can do or not do I think it will serve you better in your quest for a good dog. Hope your gyp heals up

The walker pups weren't planned. And I'm not breeding kate till I can keep multiple pups. Appreciate the advice, just don't want you to think I'm irresponsible with dogs, atleast I try not to be, just trying to find one or 2 I can raise and make dogs of and frankly the lack of free time is killing that hope and I recognize that. Appreciate the advice and I see what your getting at. I swear I cull what I don't like lol. I do not sell or pawn off culls. Hell I've given a few away I probably should have kept as they either have or are making dogs Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

update on kate for anyone who might care. She's still got a good hole in her shoulder but she finally started using it today. Still got a few weeks but hopefully she will be back to pestering some possums and a hog or 2 soon. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
