Thanks for posting this, because my two Black mouths that I ran have not ever bayed our picked out small pigs they always bayed up or picked out the bigger ones. I picked up these dogs from Ray Cooper Jus hunting dogs, and seen these dogs work on his place many times before I cut loose with my money, he has the biggest damn hogs I've ever seen that he trains these pups on. I have hunted with several dogs that prey on anything that they come across. I really think the way Ray trains them up at an early age is were this comes from. I guess is what I'm saying is I had two of the same dogs your describing and they will be missed not because of death, but I had to sell because of losing my job recently.

Barlow, I may not have worded  my comment properly,  but I'm not talking about Mt.curs or Lander breed dog. These dogs hunting hogs in my Opinion range out like a hound but cover every square inch running hogs... And you damn right I will tell you  a stock Black mouth doesn't hunt out like these dogs I have mention. I own
BEN JORDAN STOCK and wouldn't trade them off for other dogs and have been working cattle in  South Texas with blackmouth dogs for decades  with these wonderful dogs. The difference is I'm older and have worked behind just about every dog out there, just putting out facts I'm sorry opinion! !!!!

Long range is a mile to infinity........
6  HOG & DOGS / HOG DOGS / Re: Long range bmc on: March 29, 2014, 11:52:58 pm
I'm sure there might be a freak of nature Black mouth that you could call long range, but really this bread if too run with a Plot Hound like Cajon and other hound guys have, no black mouth is long range, there hot track dogs. I know I'll get high blood pressure people come on here stating other wise, but thats just fact.

If your looking for short range cat or any other dog for that matter you hit the jack pot, because everyone is selling that dog.

Judge hasn't seen this thread yet, but he has a small pit that will send in at 300 yards plus and hasn't been shaking off yet, but again we run rough ass dogs. Like many of you said, if your dogs aren't going in digging  your right.

MRS Louisiana hog dogger, Love your post and spot on to what your seeing and what's happening. Yes everyone is always trying to invent the wheel. I know everyone is tired of hearing Jordan/Ladner dogs and trying to outdo these great lines that are proven years and years after. Stick with the great ones that have gone through the trial and errors, and your hunting will always be smoother. Lets not leave out another great blackmouth man him self, Bo Nutting. The gentleman Cajun and Hillbilly that truly keep the lines of Plotts the way they were truly breed to hunt!!!
